An AI mock interview is a practice interview in which software asks the questions, listens to your spoken or typed answers and gives feedback afterward; the tools below differ most in whether the interviewer follows up and how fast and specific the feedback is. How did we choose and test these AI mock interview tools?
We included tools that let you answer interview questions and get feedback from software, are available today, and publish their prices, then put each one through the same test on September 18, 2026 where its free tier allowed it. The test is described in full on how we test: one candidate, a Senior Product Manager applying to a collaboration product, with the same three questions and the same two deliberately average answers on every tool. The answers are average on purpose, with vague ownership and no numbers, so a good tool should catch the gaps. We used free tiers only, an automated desktop browser and a simulated microphone, and we never paid.
Four tools let us run the script on the free tier: Yoodli, Interviews by AI, Huru and Mock Interview Pro (on its free question pages, not its paid voice interviews). Aced blocked our automated browser at signup and then let us in from a regular Chrome window, but its free AI interviewer takes spoken answers only, so we practiced none there. Big Interview offers no free plan, and interviewing.io's AI covers only coding and system design. For those three we report what we could reach. ChatGPT is listed from OpenAI's documentation because a general assistant's result depends on the prompt a candidate writes.
We left out three groups on purpose:
- Live interview copilots. Final Round AI, LockedIn AI, Verve AI, ParakeetAI, Sensei AI and Beyz AI are built to suggest answers during the real interview, and several bundle a mock mode. They have their own page, AI interview copilots compared. Final Round AI's practice mode also sent us to a desktop app download in our test.
- Retired tools. Google Interview Warmup no longer works; its address now redirects to an article. See our Interview Warmup review and the Warmup alternatives.
- Human-only coaching. Coaches appear below where they are part of a product (Aced, interviewing.io), not as standalone picks.

Which AI mock interviewers followed up, and how fast was the feedback?
Yoodli was the only tool on this list that followed up in our test, and Interviews by AI returned feedback fastest; those two measurements separated the tools most clearly.
- Yoodli asked three follow-ups tied to our story in about 2.5 minutes. Feedback took 13 seconds and about 24 seconds.
- Interviews by AI asked no follow-ups by design. Typed feedback arrived in about 4 seconds, the fastest we measured.
- Huru asked no follow-ups. Feedback on a recorded answer was waiting in the results page within 2 minutes 34 seconds; nothing appeared during the interview.
- Mock Interview Pro returned typed feedback with a rewrite in 7.2 seconds. We could not check its interviewer's follow-ups on the free tier.
Scores are not comparable across tools. The same deliberately average answers scored 22% and 30% on Yoodli (partly because our looping audio could not answer follow-ups) and 65 and 60 on Mock Interview Pro's free question pages. Read a score against the tool's own scale, and pay more attention to what the feedback tells you to change.
When is a human mock interviewer worth paying for instead of an AI one?
A human is worth paying for when you need judgment an AI interviewer cannot give: how a particular hiring committee will read you. An AI interviewer has no memory of what last quarter's candidates said, cannot vouch for you, and may be more generous or harsher than the person you will face, as the score gap above shows. Candidates in threads like r/csMajors also say generic tools miss what they struggle with most: "The part I actually struggle with is the conversation itself".
Three cases stand out. Senior engineering candidates benefit from a calibrated verdict against a named company's bar, which is what interviewing.io sells. Anyone who freezes with real people should add at least one live session, and Aced's free peer mocks are a cheap way to get it. And if you need a coach to rethink your story, not just polish answers, an AI rewrite of a weak answer is not a substitute; one of the rewrites in our test even added a claim the candidate never made. Use AI for volume and a human for judgment.

Yoodli was the only AI interviewer on this list that followed up on our story in our test, three times in about 2.5 minutes, which is why this speech and roleplay coach from Yoodli, Inc. in Seattle leads a list about mock interviews. You paste a job description, Yoodli builds a roleplay around the role, and the interviewer mixes preset questions with follow-ups based on what you said. Afterward you get rubric scores for STAR structure and active listening, coaching that quotes your own sentences, and analytics on filler words, pace and conciseness. The limits matter if you are preparing for one interview. The free Starter plan is 5 roleplays in total, not per month; Pro caps practice at 10 roleplays a week, and Yoodli does not offer refunds on cancellation. Starter and Pro recordings can be used for AI training, while Advanced excludes them. The product is built mainly for sales and enterprise training, and in our test it left the company field as "Not specified", so it will not prepare you for one employer's rounds. What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, the AI interviewer asked three follow-up questions in about 2.5 minutes, each about our specific story, and said "I think I'm hearing the same story twice here." Feedback appeared 13 seconds and about 24 seconds after we clicked Save & View Analysis. Scores of 22% and 30% reflect our setup as much as the answers: our test audio looped one recording, so the candidate never answered a follow-up properly and the active listening rubric scored 1 of 5 both times.

2. Interviews by AI
Interviews by AI was the fastest tool we measured: about 30 seconds from its homepage to a question written from our posting, and typed feedback with a sample answer in about 4 seconds. The web tool, made by Jake Rosenthal and Chloe Pappas, asks for no account, card or install for the first 3 questions, and it writes questions for any industry rather than pulling from a tech-only bank. That makes it a sensible first stop for a career switcher or early-career candidate who mainly wants to know what the posting implies they will be asked. It is not a mock interview in the conversational sense: questions come one at a time, nothing follows up, and there is no score, delivery analysis or video. The free plan resets to 3 questions each month and Pro removes the cap. No refund policy is published, though canceling keeps access to the end of the paid period, and after question 3 Google is the only sign-in option. The site says audio recordings are deleted right after transcription. Our side-by-side with Mock Interview Pro covers the two in more depth.
What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, three clicks and about 30 seconds took us from the homepage to a first question generated from our job description. Typed answers got a feedback paragraph and a sample response in about 4 seconds. The feedback caught missing metrics, but it once flagged a hedging phrase ("I think") that our answer did not contain, and it praised the clarity of a failed two word transcript. Question 4 required Google sign-in.

Mock Interview Pro, which we make, is the pick here built around one upcoming interview: it writes voice or video mock interviews from your target job posting and scores each answer with a fix and a rewrite. It sits third because our free test confirmed the preparation around the interview but not the interview itself. Two things are free: the free interview plan, which lists the company's interview rounds with sources and a practice plan before the paywall, and typed answers with AI feedback on the public interview question pages. Speaking your answers needs a pass. For $39, paid once, you get 30 days with three voice mock interviews drawn from your posting; the paywall calls this pass's feedback "Basic AI feedback". Mock Interview Pro says its interviewer asks follow-up questions; our free test did not reach a spoken interview to check. A longer search suits the $59 1-Year Pass, with unlimited voice interviews for 365 days, 3 video sessions and the full company research report. No pass renews, and each has a 14-day refund. It is web only, with no coding environment and no human coach; our full result is on how we test.
What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, the free interview plan took 13 screens to show a first question, offered as a self-check with no way to answer it, and about 20 screens and an email before the paywall. Along the way it listed 7 interview rounds for a product manager role at Atlassian, citing 15 sources. On a free question page, a typed answer got a score, one improvement point and a rewrite in 7.2 seconds. Two deliberately vague answers scored 65 and 60, and one rewrite added a claim the candidate never made.

Huru, the video practice app from Beatview, Inc., is the pick here that feels most like a recorded one-way screen: a question appears, you record on camera against a time cap (2 minutes on the question we saw), and you watch yourself back. It builds practice interviews from job listings or a 50,000 question library, and Huru says its feedback covers your answers, voice and facial expressions. A tips panel beside each question explains what the interviewer is looking for, and paid plans add grammar, confidence and model-answer tabs. It also has an iPhone and iPad app, a Chrome extension that turns a listing on a job board into a mock interview, and practice in five languages. It does not converse: questions come from a fixed list with no follow-ups. Both paid plans have the same features, and every payment, including renewals, is non-refundable. What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, the first question built from our job description was on screen about 110 seconds after we landed on the homepage, with no card. Huru moved to the next question after each answer with no follow-up. Feedback on answer 1 was waiting within 2 minutes 34 seconds, but the free view showed only an Accuracy paragraph that paraphrased the answer, with no score. After 2 recorded answers the trial disabled practice and results without warning.

Aced, the tech and finance prep membership from Exponent Labs, LLC that was called Exponent until its rename, is on an AI list less for its AI interviewer than for the live practice around it. The free Basic plan gives 5 live peer mock interviews a month with a shared code editor, through the peer network that was Pramp, so product, engineering and data candidates can rehearse with a person, including coding and system design rounds. The AI mock interviews are a beta on the Expert plan: audio sessions of 10 to 20 minutes on one bank question, with no technical interviews or live coding. Questions come from the bank rather than your posting, and there is no body language feedback. Expert, the plan that includes the AI interviewer, costs $99 a month or $20 a month billed yearly, as of September 18, 2026. Memberships renew automatically and refunds are limited to 5 days after purchase. Courses, a question database and paid human coaching round out the membership. What we observed
On September 18, 2026 a human check ("We couldn't verify your signup. Please try again.") stopped our automated test browser at email signup, and our own site's check failed in the same browser. On a second try in a regular Chrome window the signup worked, and about 6 minutes and 8 screens later we had a free Basic account and a free AI interviewer. It accepts only spoken answers, so we practiced no answer. The pricing page lists AI mock interviews and AI feedback only on Expert. We did not test a peer mock.

You can request an interviewer from a specific company such as Google, Meta or Stripe, at a higher price. Human sessions start at $179 each with no subscription, and the FAQ promises a full refund if you are unhappy with an interview. Its free AI Interviewer covers coding and system design with 200+ problems, and $20 a month saves those sessions for review, as of September 18, 2026. The AI side is narrow: no behavioral, product or non-engineering practice, and sessions are audio and chat with no video. For a software engineer, a sensible plan is free AI reps first, then one paid human mock before the real loop. In our test on September 18, 2026, the free AI Interviewer offered only coding and system design interviews, so our product manager questions could not be practiced. Onboarding asked for a LinkedIn profile before setup could be finished. The default booking, a Senior+ algorithms mock with a professional interviewer, showed $189 and the full refund promise.

Big Interview, from Skillful Communications and its co-founder, career coach Pamela Skillings, is the course among these picks: 170 video lessons teach answer structure before its recorded practice simulator asks you anything. A question library filters by industry, role and seniority, and PracticeAI runs voice-only mock interviews that its site says are personalized from a resume or job description. According to Big Interview, the AI feedback covers delivery, pace, filler words, eye contact and body language as well as answer quality. Many universities and workforce agencies provide it free, so check your career center before buying. Individuals get no free plan. Interview BootCamp costs $39 for a 30-day subscription that renews until canceled, and Interview Accelerator, $99 for 3 months, also renews; Interview Pro is $299 once for lifetime access, as of September 18, 2026. Its 100% refund within 30 days if you do not see results is longer than most memberships here. Its feature pages do not say the interviewer asks follow-ups, and reviewers find the course introductory for experienced candidates.
What we observed
On September 18, 2026 we created an account as an individual buyer, and the next screen offered only the three paid plans, each billed that day, with no free or trial option. We stopped without paying, so we could not test a lesson, PracticeAI or its feedback.

8. ChatGPT
ChatGPT, OpenAI's general assistant, earns a place because its Voice mode can play a demanding interviewer on the phone you already carry, and the free plan includes some voice use. It is a legitimate option. Paste the posting, ask it to act as an interviewer who asks one question at a time and follows up, and it will hold a natural back and forth, with the transcript saved to the chat for review. The free plan has no published voice cap, and Plus costs $20 a month with 3 hours of Live voice per rolling 24 hours, as of September 18, 2026. What you give up is structure. OpenAI documents no interview mode, rubric or score history, so the session is only as good as your prompt. It can be kinder than a real interviewer unless you ask for critical feedback, and OpenAI says voice transcripts are not verbatim, so feedback on exact wording can drift. We did not run ChatGPT through our script, because a general assistant's result depends on the prompt a candidate writes; this entry is based on OpenAI's own documentation.

Do AI mock interviewers ask follow-up questions?
Some do. In our tests on September 18, 2026, Yoodli asked three follow-ups specific to our answer in about 2.5 minutes. Interviews by AI and Huru never did; they move through a fixed list. Mock Interview Pro and Big Interview's paid interviewers could not be tested on a free tier, so we report only what their sites claim.
Do AI mock interviews actually help?
They help with the part candidates tend to skip: saying answers out loud and hearing where they are vague or run long. We did not measure whether any tool raises your odds of an offer, and no vendor on this page publishes that. Use AI practice for repetitions and specific fixes, and judge a tool by whether its feedback names a concrete change to your answer, not by the size of its score.
Which AI mock interview tools give feedback on body language?
Huru says it gives feedback on facial expressions in recorded video answers, and Big Interview says its AI feedback covers eye contact and body language. Mock Interview Pro says its video sessions score on-camera presence; video needs the $59 1-Year or $249 Lifetime Pass. Yoodli reports eye contact too. Our test camera showed a test pattern, so we could not judge any of these on the day.
Are my practice recordings used to train AI?
It depends on the plan. Yoodli says Starter and Pro roleplay data can be used for AI training, while Advanced ($20 a month billed yearly) excludes it. Interviews by AI says audio is deleted right after transcription. OpenAI keeps ChatGPT voice clips with the chat for 30 days and trains on audio only if you opt in. Check each tool's privacy page before recording.
How we tested
On September 18, 2026 we ran the shared Senior Product Manager script (three questions, two deliberately average answers) on each tool's free tier where it allowed practice, in an automated desktop browser with a simulated microphone and camera, without paying, and recorded prices and refund terms from each vendor's pages that day. Yoodli, Interviews by AI, Huru and Mock Interview Pro (its free question pages) let us practice. Aced's signup blocked our automated browser with a human check; a regular Chrome window got us into its free AI interviewer, which is voice only, so we practiced no answer. Big Interview offered only paid plans, and interviewing.io's AI Interviewer covers coding and system design only. ChatGPT was not run through the script; its entry relies on OpenAI's documentation.
