Interviews by AI review: fast, cheap question drills with no interviewer

Mock Interview Pro team

We make Mock Interview Pro, a competing product. We used Interviews by AI ourselves for this review, dated every price, and linked our sources so you can check them. How we test

Short answer

Interviews by AI (interviewsby.ai) is a small web tool that writes practice questions from a job description you paste and returns feedback and a sample answer for each. In our test it was the quickest start we measured: about 30 seconds to a relevant question, no account, feedback in about 4 seconds. The caveat is depth: no follow-up questions, no score and no delivery feedback. As of September 18, 2026 it costs $0 for 3 questions a month or $9 a month for unlimited questions, with no published refund policy.

Choose Interviews by AI if

  • You have a posting in hand and want to see what an interviewer is likely to ask, in a couple of minutes, before deciding how much to prepare.
  • You want to say your answers out loud for free, and 3 questions a month is enough to warm up.
  • You are early in your career or changing fields and learn best by comparing your answer with a sample one.
  • You practice steadily over a long search and want unlimited questions for $9 a month rather than a larger one-time payment.

Choose Mock Interview Pro if

  • You want to rehearse a whole spoken interview built from your job posting, and you prefer paying $39 once with a 14 day refund over a monthly plan.

What is Interviews by AI?

Interviews by AI (interviewsby.ai) is a web app that turns a job description into interview questions and gives feedback on your answers. Its footer credits two makers, Jake Rosenthal and Chloe Pappas, and it launched around May 2023, based on Chloe Pappas's LinkedIn launch post. You paste a posting (up to 5,000 characters) or pick one of 10 sample roles, such as Business Analyst, Product Manager or QA Engineer, and it writes behavioral and technical questions for that role. You answer each question by speaking or typing, then read a feedback paragraph and a sample response. The site says it works in any industry, because the questions come from whatever posting you give it. We found no mobile app or browser extension, and the only sign-in option is Google. Signing in saves your past sessions in a history view, according to the site; we did not sign in, so we did not see it.

How did Interviews by AI handle a real job posting in our test?

In our test on September 18, 2026, Interviews by AI was fast to start, its questions matched the job posting, and its feedback was useful but shallow. We tested it as Alex Rivera, a Senior Product Manager candidate, using the free plan with no account. The details by task follow.

How long does Interviews by AI take to set up?

Setup took three actions and about 30 seconds: "Try now for free", paste the job description, "Generate questions". Question generation itself finished in under 12 seconds. No account, email, card, phone number or install was requested for the first 3 questions, which made it the fastest route to a first question in our whole test set. The launch page showed "3 of 3 free questions left this month" and marked the 4 minute answer length and resume upload as Pro features; the first screenshot below shows the locked 4 minute option.

Are Interviews by AI's questions tailored to the job?

Yes, the questions were clearly written for our posting rather than pulled from a generic bank. Our job description mentioned B2B SaaS, data-informed prioritization and work with engineering, design and sales, and the three questions covered exactly that: using data to drive a decision in a B2B SaaS product, prioritizing when stakeholder interests conflict, and collaborating with engineering, design and sales. We tested one Senior Product Manager posting, so we cannot say how well it handles very different fields.

The trade-off is control. You cannot choose or add questions, so our script's opening question, "Tell me about yourself", never came up, and neither did our question on prioritizing features for a new product. If you want to rehearse a specific question you know is coming, you depend on the generator writing it.

Does Interviews by AI ask follow-up questions?

No. Interviews by AI has no interviewer, so nothing you say changes the next question. Each question is a standalone exercise: you answer, read the feedback, and move to the next item. The session is a list, and the counter changed from "of 3" to "of 6" once we reached the third question. That is fine for rehearsing stories. It is not practice for the moment when an interviewer pushes back on your answer.

How good is Interviews by AI's feedback?

The feedback identified the right problems in general terms but rarely pointed at the words we actually said. Our second answer was deliberately vague, with no numbers and no process, and the feedback asked for metrics and a decision framework, which was the right diagnosis for that answer. One note did not match our text: it flagged a hedging phrase we had not used, so check each note against what you actually said. We put the same answer into Mock Interview Pro in our side by side comparison.

Every question comes with a sample response. For question 2 it reused our own scenario, a sales team asking for a custom feature, and rebuilt it around a prioritization framework. That is a helpful model to compare against, though it still contained no concrete numbers. There was no score and no visible STAR breakdown, even though the homepage describes feedback built on frameworks like STAR. The End and Review screen condensed each answer into three short takeaways, which is a convenient checklist for a second attempt.

One result is worth knowing about. Our test microphone was silent, so the voice answer to question 1 was transcribed as "you you". The tool still produced full feedback, including "You did a great job with clarity". That points to a missing check for failed recordings, so if your transcript looks wrong, redo the answer before trusting the feedback.

How fast is Interviews by AI's feedback?

Typed answers got feedback in about 4 seconds, on both answers we timed. We could not time voice answers reliably because of our silent microphone.

How much does Interviews by AI cost, and are refunds possible?

Interviews by AI is free for 3 questions a month with no card, and its Pro plan costs $9 a month, month to month, as of September 18, 2026. The free Basic plan includes spoken or typed answers and instant feedback. The site counts each generated question you practice once, and the allowance resets at the start of each monthly period. Pro adds unlimited questions, resume upload for tailored feedback, and longer answer times. There is no annual plan.

You can cancel anytime and keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. No refund policy is stated anywhere on the site, and the terms page returned a 404 on our check date, so plan as if a payment may be final. On the other hand, $9 is a small amount to risk, and the free plan lets you judge the product before paying anything.

What do Product Hunt reviewers say about Interviews by AI?

There is very little public feedback to go on. Product Hunt lists 8 reviews, mostly positive, as of September 18, 2026, and we found no Trustpilot or G2 listing and no Reddit threads about the product. Eight reviews are too few to generalize from, so treat what follows as patterns, not a consensus.

On Product Hunt, reviewers praise the focus on one job without extra features, the clean interface and voice input, and an interview coach compared its immediate reactions to a human coach's. Complaints there were that feedback did not use the reviewer's resume or experience (resume upload has since been added, for Pro only) and that the answer time limit felt too short. A review on Interview Sidekick, which sells a competing product, calls the feedback generic and dependent on how detailed your input is. That matches part of what we saw, but give it the same weight you would give this page, since we compete too.

Is Interviews by AI Pro worth $9 a month?

For quick, cheap question practice, yes, and the free plan is worth trying first. It costs nothing and needs no account, so there is no reason not to run it on the posting you are preparing for. At $9 a month with no annual commitment, Pro costs less than Yoodli's $11 month to month plan and a little more than Yoodli's $8 a month billed yearly.

If your interview is in a day or two, the free plan is a sensible first ten minutes: paste the posting, see which three questions it writes, and answer them out loud.

It is worth less if your weak spot is the interview itself rather than knowing the questions. It has no interviewer, no follow-ups, no delivery or video feedback, no score to track progress, and no company research, so it will not simulate the pressure of a live round. Use it to find the questions a posting implies and to draft better stories, then rehearse those stories out loud with a tool that talks back, such as the ones below.

What should you use if Interviews by AI is not enough?

The right alternative depends on what you want that Interviews by AI does not do.

  • Yoodli: an AI communication coach focused on how you speak, such as filler words and pace. The free Starter plan allows up to 5 roleplays in total, and paid plans start at $8 a month billed yearly or $11 month to month (September 18, 2026).
  • Aced (formerly Exponent): a tech and finance interview prep membership with courses, a question database and peer mock interviews. The free Basic plan includes 5 peer mocks a month, and Pro starts at $12 a month billed yearly (September 18, 2026).
  • Mock Interview Pro (our product): spoken mock interviews built from your job posting, and Mock Interview Pro says its interviewer asks follow-up questions on your answers, which our free test could not check. Free, its interview plan lists your target company's interview rounds and its interview question pages score typed answers; speaking needs a pass from $39 once, with a 14 day refund, and video starts with the $59 1-Year Pass. Interviews by AI: what works and what falls short

What works

  • Generates role-specific questions from any pasted job description, for any industry
  • Written feedback plus a sample response on every question, returned about 4 seconds after a typed answer in our test
  • No account, card or install needed for the first 3 questions; you can speak or type each answer
  • Free plan with 3 questions a month and no card, and Pro costs $9 a month
  • Audio recordings are deleted right after transcription

What falls short

  • One question at a time with no follow-up questions, so it does not feel like a real interview
  • No video, delivery or body language feedback
  • The free plan allows only 3 questions a month, and resume-based feedback is Pro only
  • No refund policy is published
  • A reviewer found the answer time limit too short
  • No score and no visible STAR breakdown in our test, and feedback praised clarity on a failed two word transcript

Questions people ask

Is Interviews by AI free?

Partly. The free Basic plan gives 3 practice questions a month, spoken or typed, with no card and no account for those 3, and the allowance resets each month. Unlimited questions, resume upload and 4 minute answers need Pro at $9 a month (September 18, 2026).

Who makes Interviews by AI, and is it a real product?

Yes, it is a working product. In our test on September 18, 2026 it generated role-specific questions and returned feedback without asking for a card or an account for the first 3 questions. It is small: 8 reviews on Product Hunt, no Trustpilot or G2 listing we could find, and its site credits its two makers, Jake Rosenthal and Chloe Pappas, by name rather than a company.

Does Interviews by AI keep my voice recordings?

According to its site, no: "Audio recordings are deleted immediately after transcription; we never store them." We could not verify storage practices from the outside. Saving your interview history is a separate feature and needs a Google sign-in. If privacy matters to you, the typed mode avoids sending audio at all.

Does Interviews by AI give refunds?

The site does not state a refund policy, and its terms page returned a 404 when we checked on September 18, 2026. What it does say is that Pro is month to month, you can cancel anytime, and you keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Since no refund terms are published, assume a payment may not be refunded, and ask the makers before paying if that matters to you.

Do I need an account to use Interviews by AI?

Not for the first 3 questions. In our test the question generator and 3 answers worked with no login at all. The fourth question was blocked behind a Google sign-in, which is the only account option we saw; there was no email signup.

How we tested

On September 18, 2026 we used Interviews by AI anonymously on the free Basic plan in desktop Chromium, as a Senior Product Manager candidate with our standard test job description. We answered all 3 free questions: one by voice (our test microphone was silent, so the transcript failed) and two typed, and we timed the typed feedback. We read the pricing page and billing FAQ. We did not create a Google account, so we could not go past question 3 or see the saved history, and we did not pay for Pro, so resume upload, unlimited questions and 4 minute answers are untested.

On September 18, 2026 we used Interviews by AI anonymously on the free Basic plan in desktop Chromium, as Alex Rivera, a Senior Product Manager candidate, with our test job description pasted in. Three actions (Try now for free, paste the job description, Generate questions) took about 30 seconds to the first question, with no account, card or install. The tool wrote its own questions from the posting, so our script questions were not asked verbatim. Question 1 was answered by voice, but our test microphone was silent, so the transcript read "you you"; the tool still returned feedback that praised clarity. Questions 2 and 3 were typed and got a feedback paragraph and a sample response in about 4 seconds each. The feedback caught missing metrics and detail, but once flagged a hedging phrase ("I think") that was not in our answer. No score, STAR breakdown or follow-up question appeared. Question 4 was blocked by a Google sign-in wall, and the free counter then read 0 of 3 for the month. We could not test real audio transcription, anything past 3 questions, or the Pro features (resume upload, unlimited questions, 4 minute answers).
