Final Round AI review: a live copilot first, with practice locked inside the desktop app

What is Final Round AI?

Final Round AI (finalroundai.com) is an AI interview copilot from a San Francisco startup of the same name, founded in 2023 by Michael Guan (CEO) and Jay Ma (CTO). It raised a $6.88M seed round led by Uncork Capital in early 2025. Its flagship product, Interview CoPilot, listens to interviews on Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Webex, HackerRank, CoderPad and phone calls, detects behavioral, coding, system design and case questions, and shows suggested answers in a private window. Stealth Mode hides that window from screen sharing and recordings by default.

Around the copilot sit a voice practice mode with eight scenarios, a Goals feature that parses your resume and job description, a 10,000+ question bank on paid plans, and a debrief after each session. The company says it has 10M+ users in 80+ countries; that figure is self-reported.

What does Final Round AI cost and how do refunds work?

Final Round AI is a subscription, and at list price the smallest single charge that gets you practice is $150 for one month. These are the plans on its plan grid as of September 18, 2026:

• Monthly Plan: $150, billed monthly, auto-renews.
• Quarterly Plan: $83.33 a month, about $250 billed every quarter.
• Yearly Plan: $25 a month, about $300 billed upfront. This is the "$25/mo" on the homepage.
• Premium MAX Plan: $41.67 a month, about $500 billed yearly, with premium AI models and faster support.
• Free Plan: $0, which gave us setup features only in our test.

Prices moved while we looked. Opening the plans page signed in triggered a reveal, "Congratulations! You've unlocked today's Interview Offer. You won 8% OFF", with a countdown from 23 hours 59 minutes, and the grid then read $138 monthly, $76.67 a month quarterly, $23 a month yearly and $38.33 a month for Premium MAX. Final Round AI's pricing blog post also mentions a 10 percent discount for students, veterans, first responders and recently laid off candidates.

The free plan is described three ways. The grid gives it "Unlimited mock interviews", the FAQ says practice sessions require an active subscription, and the homepage puts practice interviews in the paid column.

Refund terms also differ by page, so read the refund policy itself before buying:

• Refund policy page (effective October 5, 2025, last updated July 16, 2026): 72 hours to request a refund on an initial or renewal charge, once per customer. "Substantial use", meaning two or more sessions over 30 minutes in the billing period, voids it. After 72 hours, payments are final except for verified technical issues on accounts without substantial use, reviewed case by case.
• Plans page FAQ: the 72-hour guarantee covers first-time Quarterly and Yearly purchases, monthly plans are non-refundable, renewals and upgrades are non-refundable, and "excessive use may disqualify you from a refund."

For a candidate with one interview next week, the practical reading is that a Final Round AI charge is close to final once you have run two practice sessions longer than 30 minutes, and on the Monthly Plan the plans page FAQ says it is non-refundable from the start.

How do you cancel Final Round AI and ask for a refund?

To ask Final Round AI for a refund, email the company within 72 hours of the charge with your account email, the purchase date, the plan and your reason; canceling is a separate step. We checked both on Final Round AI's own pages on September 18, 2026.

1. Send the refund request within 72 hours of the charge. The refund policy gives hi@finalroundai.com and asks for your account email, purchase date, plan type and reason for the request. The FAQ gives support@finalroundai.com for the same request.
2. Cancel so the next charge does not happen. Per the FAQ, open Settings, then Account & Billing, and select Manage subscription, which opens subscription management in your browser. Opening that portal does not cancel anything; the cancellation only takes effect once you complete and confirm it there.
3. Do not expect money back from canceling alone. The refund policy says cancellation prevents future charges but does not refund the current billing period.

How did Final Round AI do in our test?

Final Round AI let us create a free account in under two minutes on September 18, 2026, with no card and no phone number, but in about four minutes and eight steps we could not reach a single practice question on the web.

Signup and setup

The signup button opened a form with email and password plus Apple, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and Microsoft sign-in. About a second later a second modal opened on top of it: "Today's offer is waiting. A fresh discount every day, applied automatically at checkout." We dismissed it and entered an email and password. A six digit verification code reached our inbox in about 30 seconds, and signup was done at 21:18:20, under two minutes after we clicked sign up.

Once verified, the site sent us straight to a download page for the "AI Stealth App", under a banner reading "Activate your Interview Copilot and start getting real-time help during interviews." That banner then stayed on every page. The homepage pricing block had already told us there is no free trial and that live sessions need an active Pro subscription, with practice interviews listed under Pro.

What the web still offers after signup

The logged-in web dashboard still loads, but it now works as a signpost to the desktop app. It carries the notice "This legacy web page is being retired soon" and cards for General Interview, Mock Interview (Case Study, Behavioral, Technical), Coding, Phone and One Way, with the Mock Interview card marked "APP EXPERIENCE RECOMMENDED. This web entry is retiring soon." Clicking Behavioral redirected us to the download page, and so did the "Start practicing" button on the public mock interview page.

The web Interview Room for the live copilot did load: fields for resume, role, language, answer length and tone, a model selector set to "GPT-5.5", and a "Copilot Answers" panel showing Disconnected. Its Mock Interview panel said to "Continue in the app for guided practice interviews". The screenshots below show that room and the download page.

What we could not test

Final Round AI's practice questions, follow-ups, debrief and speed to feedback all live in the macOS and Windows app, which we did not install for this review, so we make no claim about their quality. Final Round AI says practice draws on the role, company and job description saved as a Goal, across eight scenarios from recruiter screen to salary negotiation, and ends with a debrief that flags the weakest moments to drill again; its plan grid sets an "advanced AI interview report" on paid plans against a "basic" one on the free column. We also could not confirm whether the free plan runs practice inside the app, and we did not use the live copilot in a real interview.

How has Final Round AI changed?

Final Round AI has moved practice from the web into its desktop app: its mock interview page now reads "AI Mock Interview is now Practice Interview inside Interview CoPilot", and the web dashboard says "This legacy web page is being retired soon." Its Chrome extension, listed with 20,000 users, shows version 1.0.3 from December 9, 2024. Its own pricing blog post also no longer matches the live grid: the post lists $90 monthly and $60 a month quarterly and describes a 10 minute trial session instead of a free plan.

Can employers detect or ban Final Round AI?

Final Round AI does not guarantee that it is undetectable: its homepage says "100% invisible. 100% undetectable", but its own FAQ says screen capture protection "is not a guarantee" against detection, and some employers, Amazon among them, ban AI help during interviews.

On the employer side, Amazon's recruiter guidelines warn that using generative AI tools during an interview without permission "may result in disqualification", according to Business Insider's reporting covered by IT Pro. Goldman Sachs "prohibits the use of any external sources, including ChatGPT or Google search engine, during the interview process", as reported by Fortune. Sundar Pichai said Google would introduce "at least one round of in-person interviews" to "make sure the fundamentals are there", after employees at a February 2025 town hall asked for onsite rounds because of AI-assisted candidates, as CNBC reported. No on-screen tool can run in an in-person round.

On the detection side, HackerRank claims its proctoring can capture screenshots of external tools, which is a detection vendor's claim, and an r/leetcode post (279 upvotes on September 18, 2026) asserts that copilot hotkeys, including Final Round AI's, are detectable. No published test settles detection for this product. Candidates who use copilots anyway should know the rules of each process they enter.

What do users say about Final Round AI?

Final Round AI's user feedback splits hard between people who found it helpful and people who feel misled about billing. On September 18, 2026 its Trustpilot page showed an average of 2.9 across 277 reviews, with many reviews at both extremes.

• Praise: Trustpilot reviewers mention a clean, easy interface and mock interviews that built their confidence. Product Hunt reviewers credit it with helping nervous or socially anxious candidates.
• Billing: the most repeated complaint is being charged far more than the advertised $25 a month, because yearly plans bill upfront and monthly costs $150.
• Refunds: reviewers describe refunds denied under the 72-hour and substantial use rules, and several say those rules were hard to find.
• Support: reviews from August 2026 describe reaching only AI support, with no human.
• Reliability: some users report the copilot freezing or lagging during real interviews, and one r/interviews thread is titled "Tried Final Round AI during an interview and it completely messed me up" (Reddit).

Read Reddit threads about Final Round AI with care. Both Reddit threads we found about Final Round AI billing and refunds (r/InterviewsHell and r/FinalRoundAI) contain near-identical comments promoting another interview tool, and one r/careerguidance post about an interviewer spotting AI use was called an ad by other commenters.

Is Final Round AI worth it?

Final Round AI is worth paying for only if you want a live copilot, will use it across many interviews, and have checked that your target employers allow it. For that buyer, the yearly plan works out to $25 a month (about $300 charged upfront), and the tool covers coding, system design and case rounds, which Mock Interview Pro does not.

For a candidate who mainly wants practice, it is harder to justify. Practice lives inside a desktop app, the FAQ says practice sessions need a paid plan, the cheapest month costs $150, and the refund window is short and easy to void. If your goal is to get better at answering before the interview, the practice tools below have cheaper ways in than $150 for a month; check each one's renewal and refund terms, which differ.
