Why are people searching for a Google Interview Warmup replacement?
People are searching because Google retired Interview Warmup: its pages have redirected since December 2025, and what Google now points to is a general assistant rather than an interview tool. These are the reasons we found in Google's own pages, archived captures and user posts, checked September 18, 2026.
- The tool disappeared quietly. We found no announcement post; the notice appeared on Google's Skills site. The Wayback Machine last captured the Interview Warmup page working on December 9, 2025 and recorded a redirect from December 16, 2025. A later capture of the notice reads: "We're doing a little spring cleaning and have decided to retire Interview Warmup" (Wayback, April 23, 2026). Users in r/google noticed the dead links on March 2, 2026. Our Interview Warmup review has the full history of what the tool did and when it went away.
- Google's pointer is Gemini Live, which is not an interview product. The old address now opens a Grow with Google article that recommends Gemini Live in the Gemini mobile app for practice. Gemini Live can run a good mock interview, but you write the interviewer yourself, and Google's help page says Live is not in the Gemini web app.
- Warmup filled a specific gap: free, spoken, low pressure. A career coach on LinkedIn described its value as practice "especially for career pivoters, first-time interviewers, and anyone who didn't have access to 'formal' mock interviews". That audience needs a replacement that costs nothing or close to it.
- Warmup never graded answers. Google's own FAQ said its insights "don't 'grade' your answer or tell you what part of your answer is right or wrong". Questions came in fixed sets for a handful of Google Career Certificate fields plus general questions, with no follow-ups and nothing built from a specific job posting.
What made Interview Warmup useful, and which alternatives keep it?
Gemini Live and ChatGPT Voice keep Warmup's free spoken practice, Interviews by AI keeps its one question at a time rhythm, and Yoodli adds the follow-ups Warmup never had. Check each option in the table above on these points.
- Speaking out loud. Warmup's core idea was answering aloud, not in your head. Every pick here accepts spoken answers, though Mock Interview Pro's free practice is typed only (its free interview plan maps your company's rounds but takes no answers).
- Free, and whether the free part resets. Gemini Live and ChatGPT Voice are free with usage limits. Interviews by AI resets 3 questions every month; Yoodli's 5 free roleplays are a lifetime total.
- Feedback that grades. Warmup showed patterns, not judgments. Decide whether you want a score, a sample answer, a rewrite of your own answer, or delivery analytics.
- Questions from your posting. Warmup's sets were generic. Most picks here build questions from a job description you paste.
- Where you practice. Warmup ran in any browser. Gemini Live needs the phone app; Huru adds iOS; the rest run in a browser.
- What happens to your recordings. Warmup saved no audio. Interviews by AI says it deletes audio after transcription, ChatGPT keeps Live audio for 30 days, and Yoodli can use Starter and Pro recordings for AI training.

1. Google Gemini (Gemini Live)
Gemini Live, the voice mode of Google's Gemini assistant app, is the replacement Google itself hands to Warmup users: the old Interview Warmup address now redirects to a Grow with Google article that recommends Gemini Live "to simulate a real-time, conversational interview". You set up the interview with a prompt and answer out loud, as you did in Warmup. Gemini Live is included on the free plan, with usage limits that refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly limit; Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month and Google AI Pro $19.99 a month for higher limits, as of September 18, 2026. You need a Google account and must be at least 13. What you lose from Warmup is the structure. There is no interview mode, no question set and no score history, so you write the interviewer prompt yourself, and the feedback is only as structured as what you ask for. Google's help page says Live is not in the Gemini web app for now, and saved Gems do not carry into Live, so your prompt has to be pasted each time. We did not test Gemini Live for this page, because it needs the mobile app, so there is no observation box.

2. ChatGPT
ChatGPT Voice, the spoken mode of OpenAI's ChatGPT assistant, is the free Warmup replacement for anyone who used to practice at a laptop, because it runs in the browser at chatgpt.com as well as in the iPhone and Android apps, while the Gemini web app has no Live mode. You can paste a job description, ask for one question at a time, and ask for critical feedback on the transcript at the end. The free plan includes limited voice chats with no published cap; Plus costs $20 a month billed monthly, with 3 hours of Live voice per rolling 24 hours, as of September 18, 2026. Three cautions apply. OpenAI documents no interview mode or scorecard, so structure depends on your prompt; it can be kinder than a real interviewer unless you ask otherwise; and OpenAI says voice transcripts are not verbatim, so comments on your exact wording can miss. Unlike Warmup, which saved nothing, ChatGPT keeps Live audio clips with the chat for 30 days. We did not run our test script on ChatGPT for this page.

3. Interviews by AI
Interviews by AI, a small web tool built by Jake Rosenthal and Chloe Pappas, keeps Warmup's rhythm almost exactly: a question appears, you answer out loud or in writing, and you read feedback before the next one, with no conversation around it. Two things improve on Warmup. The questions come from the posting you paste rather than a few certificate fields, and every answer gets a sample response to compare against. It also keeps Warmup's privacy habit: the site says recordings are deleted right after transcription. The free Basic plan gives 3 questions a month that reset each monthly period, with no card, and the first 3 need no account at all; Pro costs $9 a month for unlimited questions, as of September 18, 2026. What we observed
On September 18, 2026 we pasted our Senior Product Manager posting and reached the first generated question in about 30 seconds and three clicks, with no account. Typed answers got a feedback paragraph and a sample answer in about 4 seconds, and the feedback asked for missing metrics. It also flagged an "I think" our answer did not contain, and praised the clarity of a two word transcript from our silent test microphone. Question 4 needed a Google sign-in.
What works

Yoodli, an AI speech and roleplay coach from Yoodli, Inc. in Seattle, gives Warmup users the one thing Warmup never had: an interviewer who reacts to what you just said. Its interview mode mixes preset questions with follow-ups based on your answers, and it scores each answer afterward, with analytics on pace, filler words, conciseness and sentence starters that go further than Warmup's most-used-words view. It runs in a browser with no card. The free Starter plan allows 5 roleplays in total, not per month, and any session over 30 seconds counts. Pro costs $11 a month or $8 a month billed yearly, and Advanced $28 or $20, as of September 18, 2026. Warmup users who valued its privacy should know that Starter and Pro recordings can be used for AI training, and that Yoodli gives no refunds on cancellation. Read our Yoodli review.
What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, the AI interviewer asked three follow-ups in about 2.5 minutes, each tied to our story, and noticed we had repeated ourselves. Feedback arrived 13 and about 24 seconds after we saved the session, quoting our own sentences. The scores (22% and 30%) say more about our rig than about Yoodli: our recorded audio looped one answer, so the follow-ups never got a real reply.

5. Mock Interview Pro (Our product)
Mock Interview Pro, which we make, adds two things Warmup never had: grading, and interviews built from one company's job posting. It sits here, after the free options, because a Warmup user looking for something free gets spoken practice from us only after paying. For $39 once, the 1-Month Pass gives you 30 days with 3 voice mock interviews drawn from your posting, and every answer comes back scored with a fix and a rewrite, under what the paywall calls "Basic AI feedback". According to Mock Interview Pro, its interviewer asks follow-up questions; our free test did not get far enough to check. The $59 1-Year Pass adds unlimited voice for 365 days, 3 video sessions and the full company research report. Passes are paid once, never renew, and carry a 14-day refund. Two parts are free: the free interview plan lists your company's interview rounds with sources, and the interview question pages take typed answers with AI feedback. It is web only, with no coding environment and no human coach. Prices as of September 18, 2026.
What we observed
Our free test on September 18, 2026 reached the typed practice box, which scored a deliberately vague answer and returned one fix and a rewritten version in 7.2 seconds. Scores ran generous (65 and 60), and one rewrite added a claim the candidate never made. The free interview plan found 7 rounds for a product manager role at Atlassian from 15 sources. We did not buy a pass, so voice interviews are untested.

Big Interview, the lessons and practice course from Skillful Communications co-founded by career coach Pamela Skillings, serves the same career changers and first-time interviewers Warmup was built for, and often through the same kind of program. Where Warmup only practiced, Big Interview first teaches: 170 video lessons show how to build an answer, then a recorded simulator filters practice questions by industry, role and seniority and returns AI feedback on answer quality and delivery, the grading Warmup never gave. Many universities and workforce agencies provide it free to members, so ask your career center or job center before paying anything. Bought directly, there is no free plan for individuals. Interview BootCamp costs $39 for a 30-day subscription that renews until canceled, Interview Accelerator costs $99 for 3 months and also renews, and Interview Pro is $299 once for lifetime access, as of September 18, 2026. On September 18, 2026 we created an account as an individual, and the next screen offered only three paid plans, each billed that day. We stopped without paying, so lessons, the simulator and its feedback went untested.

Huru, a video mock interview app from Beatview, Inc., adds the camera Warmup never used: you record each answer on video and watch it back, and Huru says its feedback covers your answer, voice and facial expressions. That makes it the pick for a Warmup user whose next step is a one-way video screen, where you answer a camera with no one on the other side. Questions come from a job listing or a 50,000 question library, and a Chrome extension turns a listing on any site into a practice interview. Practice runs in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and French, on the web and iOS. The free trial needs no card but is short. Starter costs $24.99 a month and Growth $99 a year, with the same features, as of September 18, 2026. What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, Huru generated 5 questions from our posting in about 7 seconds, and the first question was on screen about 110 seconds after we opened the homepage. The trial stopped practice after 2 recorded answers without warning, and the free feedback was one Accuracy tab that paraphrased our answer, with no score.

Can I use Gemini Live for interview practice on a laptop?
Not in the Gemini web app: Google's help page says Gemini Live is not available there for now. Google documents a separate way to go Live with Gemini in desktop Chrome after opting in, with microphone access, and users under 18 cannot turn on the microphone there. For browser practice at a desk, ChatGPT Voice works on chatgpt.com.
What should I tell Gemini or ChatGPT so it behaves like an interviewer?
Paste the job posting and say which round you are practicing. Ask for one question at a time, a follow-up whenever an answer is vague, and no reply until you say you are done, which OpenAI itself suggests for pauses. At the end, ask for blunt feedback per answer and a list of what was missing, since general assistants can be generous by default.
Which alternative suits Google Career Certificate learners who used Warmup?
Warmup's question sets followed the certificate fields: data analytics, digital marketing and e-commerce, IT support, project management and UX design. Once you have a real job ad in one of those fields, any pick that writes questions from a posting covers it: Interviews by AI with 3 free questions a month, Yoodli with 5 free roleplays, or Mock Interview Pro with 3 voice mock interviews for $39 once, as of September 18, 2026. If a training program enrolled you, ask whether it also provides Big Interview.
How we tested
On September 18, 2026 we tried every Interview Warmup address we could find in a desktop browser and with curl; all redirected or returned not found, so there was nothing left to test. We then ran our Senior Product Manager script on the free tiers of Interviews by AI, Yoodli, Huru and Mock Interview Pro in an automated desktop browser with a simulated microphone and camera, without paying. Big Interview offered only paid plans. We did not test Gemini Live, which needs the mobile app, or ChatGPT Voice, and describe both from Google's and OpenAI's help pages. We make Mock Interview Pro, one of the picks.
On September 18, 2026 we tried to open Interview Warmup in desktop Chromium and with curl. grow.google/certificates/interview-warmup/ and grow.google/interview-warmup/ returned a 301 redirect to the Grow with Google article How to prepare for an interview, dated December 11, 2025. The only practice pointer in that article is to Gemini Live in the Gemini mobile app. The practice path redirected to the Grow with Google home page, the en_in locale URL and interviewwarmup.withgoogle.com returned 404, and the en_uk locale URL showed a page not found message. No practice screen, question or feedback was reachable at any URL we tried, so there was nothing to measure. We did not test Gemini Live, which needs the mobile app and a Google account.
