Why do candidates look beyond interviewing.io?
Most people who search for interviewing.io alternatives want more practice for less money, or practice for a role interviewing.io does not serve. These are the reasons we found in its own pages, user discussions and our test on September 18, 2026.
- Each human session is a significant expense. The FAQ says interviews start at $179 and cost more for a specific company's interviewer; the default Senior+ algorithms mock showed $189 in our test. Users have said so for years: "$120 to $180 is a little high" in r/leetcode, and a Blind poster called it "Expensive and quality of interviewers varies between poor and average". The deferred payment option is unavailable: the Pay Later program was paused in September 2022.
- It is built for software engineers. In our test, onboarding asked "How many years of experience do you have as a software engineer?", and the free AI Interviewer offered only coding and system design. Our product manager questions had nowhere to go, and sales, marketing, operations and finance candidates face the same wall.
- Free peer practice is good enough for many engineers. A Googler on Blind used Pramp for volume and interviewing.io for clearer feedback, and another reply said "Just use pramp instead. Pramp is free". Pramp's peer sessions now run inside Aced (formerly Exponent).
- Setup asks for a LinkedIn profile, and sessions have no video. In our test, onboarding kept its Get started button disabled while the LinkedIn field was empty, and sessions are audio plus chat. Our interviewing.io review covers what we saw.
Nothing on this list replaces what interviewing.io does best: a Senior, Staff or Principal engineer who has run 20+ real interviews at their company, judging you in a shared coding environment, with a full refund if you are unhappy. Aced (formerly Exponent) is where an engineer priced out of interviewing.io usually lands for free live practice: its peer mock network, the one that used to be Pramp, pairs you with another candidate over video, and you take turns interviewing each other for about 30 minutes with a shared code editor for Python, Java, C++ and more. Aced is run by Exponent Labs, LLC and also sells courses, a question database, AI mock interviews and paid human coaching. The free Basic plan includes 5 peer mocks a month with no card. Pro, with unlimited peer mocks, courses and the full question database, costs $79 a month or $12 a month billed yearly; Expert adds AI mock interviews for $99 a month or $20 billed yearly, as of September 18, 2026. The trade-off is the interviewer: a peer is another candidate, not a Staff engineer who has run 20+ real interviews. Memberships renew automatically and refunds close 5 days after purchase. What we observed
Our automated, headless browser failed the human check at email signup twice on September 18, 2026, as our own site's check did in that kind of browser. In a regular Chrome window we got in on the free Basic plan and opened its AI interviewer at no charge, but it only takes spoken answers, so we practiced no answer. The practice page listed scheduled peer sessions by track.

2. ChatGPT
ChatGPT Voice, the spoken mode of OpenAI's ChatGPT assistant, covers the ground interviewing.io's free AI Interviewer does not: behavioral questions, "tell me about a project" deep dives, and talking through a system design out loud before you draw it. It runs on the web and in the mobile apps. Paste the job description, ask for a tough interviewer who follows up, and ask for critical feedback on the transcript afterward. The free plan includes limited voice chats with no published cap; Plus costs $20 a month billed monthly, with 3 hours of Live voice per rolling 24 hours, as of September 18, 2026. The limits are clear. There is no shared code editor in a voice conversation, no rubric or score history, and no calibration against a hiring bar, so it cannot tell you whether you would pass a senior loop. OpenAI says voice transcripts are not verbatim and suggests telling Live to wait while you think. We did not run our test script on ChatGPT for this page.
What works
- A legitimate free option for spoken practice, with limited voice access on the free plan
- Works on the web as well as the iOS and Android apps
- You can paste a job description and ask for questions tailored to it, and ask for a tougher interviewer

Yoodli, an AI speech and roleplay coach from Yoodli, Inc. in Seattle, fills the behavioral gap that interviewing.io's free AI Interviewer leaves open, since that tool offers only coding and system design. Its interview mode builds a roleplay from a pasted job description and mixes preset questions with follow-ups based on your answers. Engineers who ramble through "tell me about a conflict" answers get concrete analytics on conciseness, pace and filler words. The free Starter plan allows 5 roleplays in total with no card; Pro costs $11 a month or $8 billed yearly, and Advanced $28 or $20, as of September 18, 2026. It has no coding or system design practice, no refunds on cancellation, and Starter and Pro recordings can be used for AI training. What we observed
In our September 18, 2026 test the interviewer asked three follow-ups in about 2.5 minutes that were specific to our story, and feedback came 13 and about 24 seconds after we saved. Treat our 22% and 30% scores with caution: the recorded answer we played looped, so no follow-up got a proper answer.

Mock Interview Pro, an AI mock interview platform made by us, builds voice or video mock interviews from a job posting for any role, which fits two groups interviewing.io serves poorly. The first is anyone outside engineering, such as product managers, sales, operations or finance candidates, since interviewing.io's onboarding asks for your years as a software engineer. The second is an engineer who wants many cheap reps on a behavioral or hiring manager round before one expensive calibration session. A single interview is covered by the $39 1-Month Pass: 30 days and 3 voice mock interviews from your posting, with a score, a fix and a rewrite on every answer (the paywall calls this tier "Basic AI feedback"). For a longer search, the $59 1-Year Pass gives 365 days of unlimited voice, 3 video sessions and the full company research report. Passes never renew and carry a 14-day refund. Follow-up questions are something Mock Interview Pro claims for its interviewer; our free test could not reach a voice session to confirm them. What we observed
On September 18, 2026 the free typed practice box on a product manager question page returned a score, one improvement point and a rewrite of our answer 7.2 seconds after we submitted it. The scores were generous (65 and 60 for deliberately vague answers), and one rewrite invented a claim. The free interview plan listed 7 rounds at Atlassian from 15 sources. Voice interviews need a pass, so we did not test them.

Interviews by AI, a lightweight web tool from Jake Rosenthal and Chloe Pappas, is for the reader who found interviewing.io while searching for a mock interview and then learned it serves engineers only. Paste any posting, in any industry, and it writes questions you answer out loud or in writing, with written feedback and a sample answer for each. It costs almost nothing: the free Basic plan gives 3 questions a month that reset monthly, and the first 3 need no account; Pro costs $9 a month for unlimited questions and resume upload, as of September 18, 2026. It is the opposite of interviewing.io in depth. There is one question at a time, no follow-up, no score, no coding, and no person, so it helps you rehearse content, not measure yourself against a bar. What we observed
On September 18, 2026 we got from the homepage to a question written from our posting in about 30 seconds, with no account. Typed answers drew feedback and a sample answer in about 4 seconds that pointed out missing metrics, but one comment quoted a hedge ("I think") we never wrote. A Google sign-in blocked question 4.

It pairs 170 video lessons on how to structure an answer with a question library filtered by industry, role and seniority, and AI feedback on answer quality plus pace, filler words and eye contact. Bought directly, Interview BootCamp costs $39 for a 30-day subscription that renews until canceled, Interview Accelerator $99 for 3 months and renews, and Interview Pro $299 once for lifetime access, as of September 18, 2026, with a 100% refund within 30 days if you do not see results. Yes, three. interviewing.io's own AI Interviewer is free for coding and system design, with 200+ problems, and per its booking form, as of September 18, 2026, its peer-to-peer mocks are free with quality "not guaranteed". Outside the platform, the free Basic plan of Aced (formerly Exponent) includes 5 live peer mocks a month with a shared code editor. None of these gives you a senior engineer's calibrated verdict, which is what the $179 sessions sell.
Is Pramp still a free alternative to interviewing.io?
Yes, under a new name. Do any of these alternatives give feedback on video or body language?
interviewing.io is audio and chat only. Big Interview's AI feedback lists eye contact and body language, and Mock Interview Pro says its video sessions add on-camera presence feedback, on the $59 and $249 passes; we did not verify either. Aced's peer mocks run on live video, so your partner can comment on how you come across.
Should I still book one interviewing.io session if I practice elsewhere?
If you are an engineer aiming at a FAANG-level loop, one session near the end is a reasonable plan: practice volume cheaply elsewhere, then pay once for a Senior or Staff engineer to tell you where you stand. The FAQ promises a full refund if you are unhappy with an interview, which lowers the risk of that single purchase.
How we tested
On September 18, 2026 we opened a free interviewing.io account in an automated, headless desktop browser as a Senior Product Manager candidate, without paying, and recorded prices from its FAQ, gift page and booking form. We ran the same script on the free tiers of Yoodli, Interviews by AI and Mock Interview Pro. Aced blocked our automated browser at signup; a regular Chrome window got us into its free plan, but its AI interviewer takes spoken answers only and we practiced none. Big Interview offered only paid plans. For both we report what we could see and their public pages. We checked where pramp.com now sends visitors. On September 18, 2026 we used interviewing.io's free account in an automated, headless Chromium browser, as a Senior Product Manager candidate, without paying. We signed up with email; an activation email arrived in about a minute and led to a registration form. The dashboard then opened behind a Welcome onboarding modal asking for a company, years of experience as a software engineer and a LinkedIn profile. Get started stayed disabled with LinkedIn empty, so we did not finish onboarding. Behind the modal, the default booking (professional interviewer, algorithms and data structures, Senior+) showed a price of $189 and the promise of a full refund if you are unhappy. The free AI Interviewer offered only coding (CoderPad) and system design (Excalidraw) interviews, with a $20 a month Premium upsell to save sessions, and no behavioral or product manager option, so none of our script questions could be practiced and we did not start a session. The FAQ and gift page list $179 as the starting price. We could not test the booking flow past onboarding, peer-to-peer mocks, any paid human session, the quality of human feedback or the AI Interviewer's feedback.
