What can you practice for free, and what does each free plan include?
You can practice interviews for free with a general assistant (ChatGPT Voice, Gemini Live), the free tier of a practice tool (Yoodli, Interviews by AI, Huru's trial, Mock Interview Pro's typed practice), a peer network (Aced, interviewing.io) or the employer's own rehearsal (HireVue). Each kind gives something different for $0, and each has its own catch:
- General assistants (ChatGPT Voice, Gemini Live): open-ended spoken practice, limits that the makers do not publish as a number, no scoring structure.
- Free tiers of practice tools (Yoodli, Interviews by AI, Mock Interview Pro's typed practice, Huru's trial): real interview structure and feedback, but small fixed allowances.
- Peer and human networks (Aced's peer mocks, interviewing.io for engineers): a real person on the other side, at the price of scheduling and uneven partners.
- The employer's own rehearsal (HireVue's practice questions): the real interface, only after you are invited.

How do you pick between free AI practice, peer mocks and the real HireVue rehearsal?
Pick by the kind of interview in front of you and by what you need most right now: repetitions, a critique, or a real person.
- You want to say answers out loud as many times as possible tonight: ChatGPT Voice on the web or phone, or Gemini Live on a phone. Paste the posting and ask for one question at a time.
- You want to know whether your answers hold up under follow-ups: spend Yoodli's 5 free roleplays on your strongest stories.
- You have one posting and want to see what it will ask: Interviews by AI writes questions from it, 3 a month free.
- You want a score and a rewritten version of your answer: type it into the free box on Mock Interview Pro's question pages.
- You freeze in front of people more than in front of a screen: book a free peer mock on Aced, or ask a friend (see the next section).
- You are a software engineer with coding and system design rounds: interviewing.io's free AI Interviewer, and its free peer mocks.
- You have a one-way video screen coming: use Huru's trial to watch yourself on camera, and once the invitation arrives, HireVue's own practice questions.
Mixing two tools usually beats squeezing one: a general assistant for volume, and one structured tool to check whether the answers are actually good. If your phone is where you will practice, our interview practice apps list covers what works there.
Where can you get a free mock interview with a real person?
Free mock interviews with a person come from three places: peer networks, your school or local career services, and people you already know.
Peer networks. Aced's free Basic plan, which is where Pramp's peer mocks now run, gives 5 peer mocks a month across product, behavioral, system design, coding and finance rounds. Engineers can also book interviewing.io's free peer-to-peer mocks. In both, your interviewer is another candidate, so you get real pressure and uneven feedback.
Your career center or a workforce office. If you are a student or recent graduate, ask your university career center whether it runs mock interviews or licenses a practice tool; public workforce and job centers are worth the same question. Big Interview, for example, is sold to universities and workforce agencies, and it has no free plan for individuals outside those partners. See our Big Interview review.
A friend, mentor or former colleague. Someone who has hired for a role like yours makes a strong free interviewer, even without training. Give them the job posting and five questions from our interview question pages, ask them to interrupt with one follow-up per answer, and ask for the single answer they would have doubted most. Record the call if they agree, so you can hear your own pace afterward.
How did we check each free plan?
Every pick has a free tier you can use without a card to answer interview questions or rehearse the real interview interface. We checked each free limit on the maker's own pricing or help page on September 18, 2026, and state it with that date, because free tiers change without notice.
We ran the same script everywhere we could get in: Alex Rivera, a product manager applying for a Senior Product Manager role, with the same short job posting and the same two deliberately average answers, typed where a tool takes text and played through a simulated microphone where it wants speech. How we test describes the script and the seven measurements. We did not pay for anything. Yoodli, Interviews by AI, Huru and Mock Interview Pro's typed practice let us answer questions. interviewing.io's free AI Interviewer offered only coding and system design, and Aced's signup bot check rejected our automated browser; from a regular Chrome window we reached its free AI practice, which wants spoken answers, and we practiced no answer there. We did not test ChatGPT Voice or Gemini Live, and HireVue's practice needs a real employer invitation, so those three picks are described from their makers' documentation and carry no test box.
What we left out, and why:
- Retired tools. Google Interview Warmup no longer works, so it is not a pick.
- Tools with nothing free to practice on. Big Interview has no free plan for individuals (free access comes through partner schools and agencies), and Final Round AI's free account covers setup only; its FAQ says a practice session needs a paid plan.
- Live interview copilots. Several offer free minutes, but they are built to help during a real interview, not to practice before it. They have their own list: AI interview copilots.
We make Mock Interview Pro, which appears on this list. It is placed by what its free options actually do, and its spoken practice is paid.
What does free interview practice leave out?
Free practice gets you repetitions; it rarely gets you a reliable judgment. Know these limits before you trust a free result.
Allowances are small or unstated. Yoodli's 5 roleplays are for life, not per month, and Interviews by AI resets at 3 questions a month. ChatGPT and Gemini do not publish a voice limit as a number, so a session can end when you hit one.
General assistants have no memory of your progress. Neither ChatGPT nor Gemini keeps a rubric or score history across sessions, and Gemini's saved Gems do not work in Live, so you rebuild the interviewer each time.
AI feedback can be kind or wrong. In April 2025 OpenAI rolled back a GPT-4o update it described as overly supportive but disingenuous. In our tests, Interviews by AI praised a transcript that read "you you", and Mock Interview Pro's typed practice scored deliberately vague answers 65 and 60. Ask every tool for the single weakest sentence in your answer, not for general impressions.
Peers are not interviewers. A peer mock gives you a real human reaction, but your partner is another candidate, and users report that quality varies.
When paying for a human is worth it. If you are aiming at a senior engineering bar, a final round with a lot at stake, or you have failed the same round twice and cannot tell why, a session with an experienced interviewer gives calibration no free tool does. interviewing.io's human mocks start at $179 a session, which is why most people should squeeze the free options first. How can you rehearse out loud for free before an interview in two days?
Spend the evening saying answers, not reading them. Paste the posting into Interviews by AI to see three likely questions, then open ChatGPT Voice or Gemini Live, give it the same posting and ask it to interview you one question at a time and to push back on vague answers. Take your weakest answer to a free practice box on our interview question pages for a score and a rewrite, then say the improved version out loud twice. If you still have Yoodli roleplays, use one the night before on the story you are least sure of, or ask a friend to run the five questions with you over a call.
1. ChatGPT
ChatGPT Voice, the spoken mode of OpenAI's general assistant, is the most flexible way on this list to hold a mock interview out loud without paying, as long as you write the interviewer yourself. Paste your job posting, ask it to interview you for that role one question at a time, and ask for critical feedback on the transcript afterward. The free limit is the catch. As of September 18, 2026, the free plan includes "limited voice chats" with GPT-Live-1 mini, OpenAI publishes no number, and it says limits may change. Plus costs $20 a month, billed monthly, for 3 hours of Live voice per rolling 24 hours. ChatGPT has no interview mode, rubric or score history, so the quality of the mock depends on your prompt. OpenAI also says Voice transcripts are not verbatim records, so feedback on your exact wording can be off. Two tips from OpenAI's own help page matter for interviews: tell Live to wait until you ask it to respond, because long pauses can trigger a reply, and ask for a tougher tone if it sounds too kind. We did not run our test script through ChatGPT for this page; everything here comes from OpenAI's help center and pricing page.
What works

- Works on the web as well as the iOS and Android apps

2. Google Gemini (Gemini Live)
Gemini Live, the voice mode in Google's Gemini mobile app, is the free spoken practice option Google's own Grow with Google interview tips article recommends for simulating a real-time, conversational interview. It is included on the free plan as of September 18, 2026. Google publishes no minute cap for Live; its subscription page says usage limits refresh every 5 hours until you reach a weekly limit, and Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month doubles them. Three limits matter for practice. Gemini Live is not in the Gemini web app, so desk practice means the phone or Gemini in Chrome. Gems cannot be used with Live, so a saved interviewer prompt does not carry into voice and you set up the interview each time. And, like ChatGPT, it has no rubric or score history, so you have to ask for a critique and judge it yourself. We did not test Gemini Live for this page.

3. Yoodli
Of the free options on this page, Yoodli, the Seattle AI communication coach, comes closest to a real mock interview: interview mode builds a roleplay from a pasted job description, mixes preset questions with follow-ups based on what you said, and returns a score, rubric scores and delivery analytics on filler words, pace and conciseness. The free Starter plan allows up to 5 roleplays in total, not per month, with no credit card, as of September 18, 2026. Any session over 30 seconds counts toward that limit, so plan each roleplay rather than testing the microphone inside one. Starter recordings can be used for AI training. If you later pay, Pro is $11 a month or $8 a month billed yearly, and Yoodli does not refund on cancellation. The feedback leans toward delivery more than the substance of your answer, which reviewers mention too. More in our Yoodli review.
What we observed
On September 18, 2026, Yoodli's AI interviewer asked three follow-ups in about 2.5 minutes, each specific to our answer, and said "I think I'm hearing the same story twice here." Feedback arrived 13 and about 24 seconds after saving, with scores of 22% and 30%. Those low scores partly reflect our test recording, which looped one answer instead of replying to the follow-ups. We used 2 of the 5 free roleplays.

4. Interviews by AI
For a candidate with $0 and one posting, Interviews by AI is the quickest way to see what that posting is likely to ask: paste the job description, answer out loud or in writing, and get written feedback with a sample answer, with no account, card or install for the first questions. The free Basic plan gives 3 practice questions a month, resetting each monthly period, with a 2 or 3 minute answer limit, as of September 18, 2026. Continuing past question 3 or saving history needs a Google sign-in, the only sign-in option. Pro costs $9 a month, month to month, for unlimited questions, resume upload and longer answers, and no refund policy is published. It asks one question at a time with no follow-ups and gives no video or delivery feedback, so treat it as question discovery plus a written critique, not an interview simulation. What we observed
On September 18, 2026 the first generated question was on screen about 30 seconds after we landed, with no account. Typed answers got a feedback paragraph and a sample response in about 4 seconds. The feedback caught missing metrics, but once flagged "I think", a phrase our answer did not contain, and it praised the clarity of a voice answer whose transcript read only "you you". Question 4 was blocked by Google sign-in.
What works

5. Mock Interview Pro (Our product)
Mock Interview Pro, the AI mock interview platform we make, gives away two things for free, and neither one lets you speak. The first is typed practice on our public interview question pages: each question has a practice box that takes a typed answer, with no signup, and returns a score, one prioritized fix with why and how, and an edited version of your own answer. The second is the free interview plan, about 20 screens and an email, which lists the company's interview rounds with sources and builds a practice plan before a paywall. Saying answers out loud costs money here: the cheapest paid step is $39, paid once, for three spoken interviews from your posting within 30 days, as of September 18, 2026. Mock Interview Pro's site describes follow-up questions in its paid interviews, which sit beyond the free plan we tested. For a no-budget reader, the typed box is the useful part: quick feedback on the content of common questions in your field, which pairs well with ChatGPT or Gemini for the speaking.
What we observed
On September 18, 2026 a typed answer on the product manager question page got a score, one fix and a rewrite 7.2 seconds after we clicked. Scores ran generous (65 and 60 on deliberately vague answers), each answer got one improvement point, and one rewrite added a claim the candidate never made. The free plan listed 7 interview rounds for Atlassian with 15 sources, but let us answer nothing before the paywall.

6. Aced (formerly Exponent)
The free Basic plan at Aced (formerly Exponent, from Exponent Labs, LLC) is where the old Pramp peer network now runs, and it is the most generous free human practice on this list: 5 peer mocks a month, plus sample lessons and sample questions, with no credit card, as of September 18, 2026. In a peer mock, you and another candidate each interview the other for about 30 minutes over live video, with a shared code editor for engineering rounds. A real person reacts in ways an AI does not, which is good pressure practice. The limits: your partner's quality varies, according to users on Blind, and AI feedback and transcripts need a paid plan (Pro is $79 a month or $12 a month billed yearly, and AI mock interviews sit on Expert). The content is aimed at tech and PM roles, so candidates for sales, operations or healthcare roles get less from it. Memberships renew automatically if you upgrade. What we observed
On September 18, 2026 the email form rejected our automated, headless browser twice with "We couldn't verify your signup. Please try again." Our own site's human check failed in the same browser. In a regular Chrome window the free account opened with no card: the Basic plan includes a free "Practice with AI" session, but both of its formats need a microphone, so we practiced no answer and saw no feedback. We did not test a peer mock.

interviewing.io, the San Francisco marketplace best known for paid anonymous mocks with senior engineers, has a free layer that only engineers can use well: an AI Interviewer for coding and system design with 200+ problems from Beyond Cracking the Coding Interview which, according to interviewing.io, runs in the style of a FAANG mock interview with feedback at the end. There are also free peer-to-peer mocks where you are matched with a random user, which the booking form says come with no quality guarantee. Both need a login, not a card, as of September 18, 2026. Saving AI Interviewer sessions costs $20 a month, and human mocks start at $179 a session. What we observed
In our September 18, 2026 test, the free AI Interviewer offered only a coding interview in CoderPad and a system design interview in Excalidraw, so our product manager script could not run. Onboarding also wanted a LinkedIn profile before it would let us continue.

Huru, Beatview's AI video interview app, is on a free list for one reason: it is the only tool here that records video answers to AI-generated questions for free, which helps before a one-way video screen. The free trial is short. Huru does not state its length, and in our test it disabled practice and results after 2 recorded answers, with no warning beforehand, as of September 18, 2026. Free feedback was one Accuracy tab; grammar, confidence and model answers sat behind Premium. Paid plans are $24.99 a month or $99 a year, and every payment is non-refundable, renewals included. Use the trial to check how you look and sound on camera, then move on unless you plan to pay. Read our Huru review.
What we observed
On September 18, 2026 the first question built from our pasted posting was on screen about 110 seconds after we landed, with no card. Huru asked no follow-ups, and feedback on our first answer was waiting in Results within 2 minutes 34 seconds. After 2 recorded answers, the trial disabled practice and results.

9. HireVue practice interview
If an employer has already sent you a HireVue OnDemand invitation, the free practice questions inside it are the only way to rehearse on the real interface: three generic questions, no plan, no card, and HireVue says you can redo them as many times as you need and that they are never submitted to anyone. After the equipment test in your invitation link, choose Try a practice question, answer, then play it back to check sound, video, background and lighting. The limits are just as clear, as of September 18, 2026: three generic questions, no feedback or score, and no access before an employer invites you. So it is not a way to practice answers; it is a way to remove surprises about the interface and timing on the day. We did not test it, because it needs a real invitation; the details come from HireVue's candidate FAQ and help center. Does Pramp still offer free mock interviews?
Yes, under a different name. Since July 2024 new Pramp sessions have been hosted on Exponent Practice, and Exponent is now Aced. Are free mock interviews with strangers any good?
They are good pressure practice and uneven coaching. Your partner is another candidate, and users on Blind report that quality varies; interviewing.io's booking form says its free peer mocks come with no quality guarantee. Go in with your own question list, ask your partner for one specific thing to fix, and treat their verdict as one opinion.
Can I practice interviews out loud for free without a time limit?
Not with a published guarantee. ChatGPT's free plan has limited voice chats and OpenAI publishes no number; Gemini Live is free with usage limits that refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap. Aced's 5 peer mocks a month and Yoodli's 5 lifetime roleplays are fixed counts. All limits were checked September 18, 2026.
Do free AI mock interviews go easy on you?
Some do. In April 2025 OpenAI rolled back a GPT-4o update it called overly supportive but disingenuous, and in our tests Mock Interview Pro scored vague answers 65 and 60 while Interviews by AI praised a two word transcript. Ask any tool for the weakest sentence in your answer, and compare feedback across two tools.
How we tested
On September 18, 2026 we checked the free plan of every product on this list on its pricing or help pages, and ran our shared Senior Product Manager script through the free tiers we could reach, in an automated desktop browser with a simulated microphone and camera, without paying. Yoodli, Interviews by AI, Huru and Mock Interview Pro's typed practice let us answer questions. interviewing.io's free AI Interviewer offered only coding and system design. Aced's signup bot check rejected our automated browser; in a regular Chrome window we got in, but its free AI practice takes spoken answers only, so we practiced none there. We did not test ChatGPT Voice, Gemini Live or HireVue's practice questions (the last needs an employer invitation) and describe them from their makers' pages. We make Mock Interview Pro, one of the picks.
