Parakeet AI review: a pay-per-call copilot whose free mock never grades your answer

Is Parakeet AI legit?

Parakeet AI (ParakeetAI) is a legitimate product from a registered company. In our test its browser mock interview transcribed our spoken answer and drafted an answer on screen in under 9 seconds; we did not install or test the live desktop copilot. The company is ParakeetAI d.o.o., at an address in Ljubljana, Slovenia, named in its terms. Founder Jure Sotosek launched it in September 2024, and in January 2025 Starter Story described it as bootstrapped, with two founders.

The trust signals worth checking are its own numbers. The home page claims "1.5M+ people" and a rating of "4.86 from 340K+ reviews" without naming where those reviews live. The rating we could verify is on Trustpilot: 4.6 from 107 reviews on September 18, 2026. So the company is real; the question for most readers is whether a copilot is what they need, and what it costs when a call runs short.

What is Parakeet AI?

Parakeet AI is a real-time AI call assistant from ParakeetAI d.o.o. that listens to a live interview, transcribes the questions and shows suggested answers and code on screen while the conversation happens. Its "Interview mode" sits next to a regular call mode for meetings, sales calls and exams. It supports Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Webex, Lark, Amazon Chime, CoderPad and HackerRank, plus phone calls through Google Voice, in 50+ languages. It runs as a desktop app on Windows, macOS and Linux, in desktop Chrome, and on mobile web. Around the copilot sit a mock interview (the first one free), a Resume Maker, a headshot generator and a Question Bank.

What happened in Parakeet AI's free mock interview?

In our test on September 18, 2026, Parakeet AI's free mock interview was a rehearsal of the copilot itself: an AI interviewer asked a question while Parakeet AI drafted an answer for us on the right side of the screen.

Signup and setup

Sign-up needed only an email and a six-digit code, with no card, phone number or install. From entering the code to the first question appearing took 2 minutes 36 seconds, including two onboarding questions and a setup dialog. That dialog asked for the company (we picked Atlassian), the job description and an optional CV, then the same preferences the live copilot uses: language, model, answer style, AI instructions and an "Auto Generate (Beta)" switch. Mocks run only in the browser; the desktop app was shown as unavailable for them.

Before the session started, a dialog offered the choice pictured below: one free mock of 10 minutes per account, "and it can't be extended", or a paid mock of 30 minutes for 0.5 credit.

Question realism and follow-ups

The opening question was realistic and tied to the role: the interviewer introduced itself as hiring for "the Senior Collaboration PM role at Atlassian" and asked us to introduce ourselves. After we answered, the interviewer never asked a second or follow-up question, even when we left 40 seconds of silence, and the free 10 minutes ran out. Parakeet AI's mock page says the interviewer "follows up on what you said". Our fake microphone failed once and forced a reconnect, so we would not treat this one session as proof that follow-ups never happen.

Feedback on the answer

Parakeet AI gave no evaluation of our answer. When we clicked "Answer", a drafted answer appeared in under 9 seconds, but it was written from the job description, not from what we said, and it added claims our candidate never made, such as leading "product roadmaps for features used by tens of thousands of companies". After the session, "AI Notes" took about 21 seconds to generate and restated our answer ("Shared that they have been a product manager for about five years, primarily in B2B software"). There was no score, no weak sentence named and no rewrite of our own words. The screenshots below show the drafted answer beside the interviewer's question.

That design is deliberate. The session panel says the mock is "where to test your answer preferences and see how ParakeetAI behaves, so the only new thing on the day of the interview is the person you're talking to." It prepares you to use the copilot, not to answer without it.

How much does Parakeet AI cost, and can you get a refund?

Parakeet AI costs $38 for one credit, where 0.5 credit buys a 30-minute call session, or $149.90 a month for Unlimited, as of September 18, 2026. The full price list on that date:

• Credits, paid once: $38 for 1, $59 for 3, $118 for 8 (6 plus 2 free) and $177 for 15 (9 plus 6 free).
• Unlimited: $78 a week, $149.90 a month or $599.90 a year (shown as $49.99 a month). It adds unlimited calls and mocks, "Full privacy mode", resume PDFs, headshots and the Question Bank.
• Prepare Only: $45.90 a month or $183.90 a year for the resume, headshot and Question Bank tools, with calls charged separately in credits.

For a single interview, one $38 credit is the cheapest paid route and covers two call sessions of up to 30 minutes. The weekly plan at $78 only makes sense if several calls land in the same week.

Refunds are narrow. The in-app policy reads: "We offer a 7-day refund window for accidental or unused purchases." It adds that "If any credit has been used, the purchase is no longer eligible for a refund" and that this "applies to one refund per person/user (not per account)." In practice, a credit pack is final once you start a call with it.

Is Parakeet AI undetectable?

We could not verify it. Parakeet AI markets its desktop app as hidden from the other side of the call, but we did not install the app, and the coding-assessment platform HackerRank says it can spot outside tools through Proctor Mode screenshots and AI plagiarism checks. Parakeet AI's home page lists "Invisible on Screen Share: Share your screen while ParakeetAI stays completely invisible to others," "Invisible in Dock", "Invisible in Activity Monitor", "Invisible to Tab Switching" and "Cursor Undetectability", and closes with "Completely undetectable, completely yours." It links invisibility test videos for Zoom, Teams, Meet, HackerRank, CoderPad, Webex, Amazon Chime and Lark. A Blind user reports that clicking Parakeet AI's window registered as a focus loss in a coding environment. Both sides are claims, not tests we ran.

Parakeet AI's own terms forbid using it to break an employer's rules. Some employers have told candidates not to use AI in interviews: Amazon in recruiter guidelines reported by Business Insider (via IT Pro), and Goldman Sachs in a statement to Fortune. What do Parakeet AI users say?

Parakeet AI users on Trustpilot mostly praise speed and accuracy, and the complaints center on credits and reliability. On September 18, 2026 its Trustpilot profile showed a 4.6 from 107 reviews, 47 of them from the last 12 months, with 76 percent five-star and 3 percent one-star; the company had replied to 25 percent of negative reviews.

• Reviewers say its speech-to-text is fast and accurate, and like the clean interface and quick responses.
• One reviewer calls it unfair that a 15-minute call still used half a credit.
• Others ask for better handling of context in the AI's answers.

The most detailed negative account is a Blind post from December 2025. The poster used Parakeet AI in two technical interviews and reports that the tool froze mid-answer when credits ran out, alongside the focus-loss signal above, and that support declined to refund the credits. It is one person's account, but it describes two concrete risks: running out of credit mid-answer and a focus-loss flag in a coding environment.

Is Parakeet AI worth paying for?

Parakeet AI is worth paying for if you have already decided to use a live copilot where it is allowed and you want per-call pricing rather than a monthly plan. Broad platform support, 50+ languages and a free 10-minute session make it easy to try before spending $38.

It is a poor fit if your goal is to get better at answering. In our test nothing in the product judged our answer, and the drafted answer, written from the job description, claimed experience our candidate had not mentioned, which is a risk if a follow-up question probes it. It is also a poor fit for anyone who dislikes metering: credits are spent in 30-minute blocks and refunds end once one is used.

How should you use Parakeet AI's free mock before an interview this week?

Use it to learn the copilot's layout, not to judge your answers. If your interview is one to three days away and you plan to use Parakeet AI, spend the free 10 minutes learning where the drafted answer appears and how long it takes, and read the recruiter's instructions about outside help before the call. If you would rather walk in without a copilot, spend tonight saying your three most likely answers out loud and getting each one critiqued, which this mock does not do.
