What is the real difference between Mock Interview Pro and Interviews by AI?

Interviews by AI (interviewsby.ai), made by Jake Rosenthal and Chloe Pappas, is a question drill, and Mock Interview Pro is a mock interview. Both start from the same input, a job posting, which is why they get compared. What happens next is different.

Interviews by AI reads the job description you paste and writes a short list of questions. You answer each one out loud or by typing, and it returns a paragraph of feedback plus a sample response. There is no interviewer and no conversation. You work through the list at your own pace.

Mock Interview Pro runs the interview itself. A live voice or video interviewer, built from your posting, company and interview round, introduces itself for that company ("I'm Diane, and I'm a recruiter with Amazon"), asks the round's questions and listens; the voice interviewer follows up on your answers. Its free interview plan researches the target company's rounds before you pay.

So the choice is between individual questions drilled cheaply and the interview you are actually facing, rehearsed out loud. For a candidate with a date on the calendar, the second is the closer rehearsal.

What feedback does each tool give on a vague answer?

Interviews by AI flagged our vague answer in general terms; Mock Interview Pro quotes the exact weak sentence and rewrites it. On September 18, 2026 we typed the same deliberately weak answer into each tool, following our testing method, for nearly the same question about conflicting stakeholder priorities. The answer opened "Yeah, so there was a time when the sales team wanted us to build a custom feature" and ended with "I learned that communication is really important", with no numbers and no process.

Interviews by AI returned its feedback in about 4 seconds. It praised the answer's understanding of stakeholder management, then said "The example is somewhat generic and could benefit from clearer metrics or decision framework that shows your data-informed approach." It also advised avoiding hedging phrases like "I think"; our answer says "I didn't think it was a good idea" but never uses "I think" as a hedge. The sample response reused our scenario (sales asking for a custom feature) and wrapped it in a prioritization framework, still without concrete numbers.

Mock Interview Pro's paid debrief works at the sentence level. In one Amazon recruiter screen it highlighted the candidate's own line "So I think that I'm a lead engineering at my current position", explained that it left "not a crisp mental picture of your role", gave a structure to use instead (current title, team, then three buckets of ownership) and showed the same answer with that phrase rewritten. Does either tool behave like a real interviewer?

Interviews by AI does not. It asked no follow-up question in our test, generated a fixed list and treated every answer as a separate exercise. It also chose its own questions, so a classic opener like "Tell me about yourself" only appears if the generator writes it.

Mock Interview Pro does. In a voice session for an Airbnb software engineer role, after the candidate said he built "a compliance system there to handle a lot of traffic", the interviewer asked "And what was your specific role in building that compliance system and those observability dashboards?" and then summarized his answer before moving on. The video interviewer reacts to what it sees: one opened with "It's nice to have a fellow music lover on the call judging by those guitars in the background." Rounds where the interviewer digs into your answer, such as a hiring manager or behavioral panel, reward practice that responds to what you actually said. A list of single questions trains recall of stories; it does not train staying composed when someone asks "and what would you do differently?".
