Yoodli suits spoken interview practice when delivery is your weak spot and a subscription without refunds is acceptable. Made by Seattle's Yoodli, Inc. and now sold mainly to companies, it gave our free account an AI interviewer that asked three pointed follow-ups, then STAR coaching and speech analytics within about 24 seconds. The caveats: its rewrites were model answers with blanks, not our own story improved, and the free plan is 5 roleplays in total. Pro costs $8 a month billed yearly or $11 month to month, as of September 18, 2026.

What is Yoodli?
Yoodli (yoodli.ai) is an AI communication coach from Yoodli, Inc. in Seattle that lets you rehearse interviews, presentations and difficult conversations out loud with an AI partner, then scores mostly how you spoke. Varun Puri and Esha Joshi founded it in 2021, and TechCrunch reported a $40M Series B in December 2025. The web app has three practice modes (roleplay, speech with AI questions, and interview), gives feedback on uploaded recordings, and can send private real-time nudges inside Zoom, Teams and Google Meet. In interview mode, its help center says, "the AI will ask you preset questions, and mix in dynamic followup questions based on your responses." Coding and system design interviews are not part of it.
Who is Yoodli built for now?
Yoodli is built first for companies training their staff, and job seekers use the self-serve plans that sit alongside. Its homepage on September 18, 2026 read "Interactive AI Roleplays for gtm enablement" with a "Get Yoodli for your team" button, and TechCrunch describes the business as enterprise-first: sales enablement, onboarding and certification.
For an individual candidate this matters in two ways. The self-serve plans work on their own: our free account reached a full interview roleplay and its feedback without talking to sales. And interview prep is one branch: after verifying our email, the onboarding asked "What can we help you with?" with interview preparation as one of four answers.
What happened in our two Yoodli interview roleplays?
Yoodli held up well as a spoken interviewer and as a delivery coach in our test on September 18, 2026, and was weaker at turning our own story into a better one. We ran our standard Senior Product Manager script on the free Starter plan, as described on our methodology page. One limit shapes everything below: our simulated microphone looped one recorded, computer-generated answer, so the candidate repeated itself and never answered a follow-up properly.
Getting from signup to a speaking interviewer
Getting to a speaking interviewer took about 4 minutes 20 seconds with no card, no phone number and nothing to install, including an optional pasted job description and about 45 seconds waiting for the verification email. Signup offers Google, Microsoft or email.
The setup screen defaults to a "Behavioral Interview" with a persona called Mike McMillan, a manager tagged "FRIENDLY", and a two-line rubric: "Actively listen" and "Use the STAR method". A sidebar on every page reads "You're on the Free plan. 5 Yoodlis remaining" next to an upgrade button and the promo code YOODLI20.
Can Yoodli build an interview from your job posting?
Yoodli's job description import picked up the role but not the company. We pasted our posting into "Create from a job description", and about 8 seconds later the builder showed "Senior Product Manager, Collaboration" as the role and "Not specified" as the company. The interviewer that followed still used the default behavioral rubric.
How hard did Yoodli's interviewer push back?
The AI interviewer was the most convincing part of Yoodli. It opened with a greeting by name and waited for a reply before asking anything. In our second session it asked three follow-ups in roughly two and a half minutes, each about the story it had just heard: what our main concern about the custom feature had been, what exactly worried us when we explained our reasoning to the sales team, and, once our recording replayed, "I think I'm hearing the same story twice here." That last line was triggered by our looping recording, but it shows the interviewer tracks what it has already heard.
In the first session our looping answer never paused, so the interviewer never got a second turn at all.
What Yoodli's coaching said about our stories
The feedback page combined a percentage score, rubric scores, written coaching and speech analytics, and the coaching quoted our own words. Our two sessions scored 22% and 30%, low marks driven partly by an active listening rubric that our looping audio could not pass. Beyond that, the coaching was specific about content:
- On our first session it said "Your answer stayed at the level of a career summary and never became a story."
- On the second, it flagged our closing line, "it worked out okay and the customer was happy", as too thin, and asked us to say what shipped, how long it took and whether the roadmap items still landed on time.
- It compared attempts: "Compared to your previous attempt, you made a meaningful leap by actually attempting a full behavioral story" (its previous attempt was our looped first session on a different question).
The rewrites were the weak spot. A Conciseness card trimmed one sentence of ours, and the STAR insight offered a full example answer with placeholders ("Adoption went from X to Y") rather than rebuilding our answer from our own facts. You learn the shape of a strong answer, then have to fill it in yourself.
Yoodli's speech analytics, and why our numbers need a caveat
The Analytics tab is where Yoodli is strongest: pace, filler words, weak words, conciseness and sentence starters, all on one screen. On our first session, where the recording looped one computer-voiced answer about six times, it reported 197 words a minute (advising under 170), 26% excess wording and "I" starting 33% of sentences. The repetition likely inflated the conciseness figure, and the pace is a synthetic voice's pace, so treat these as examples of what Yoodli measures rather than a reading of a real candidate. A pronunciation card advised stressing the first syllable of "ownership" on that same synthetic voice, which suggests the card appears on every recording. The feedback page also sits at a shareable link with a Share button.
Time from ending a roleplay to feedback
Feedback arrived fast: the score and rubric were on screen 13 seconds after we clicked "Save & View Analysis" in the first session and about 24 seconds after in the second. Additional coaching cards finished loading over the following 10 to 20 seconds.
Gaps in our Yoodli test
We did not test a clean exchange where the candidate answers each follow-up, the third interview question in our script, typed Practice Questions, uploaded recordings, the Zoom, Teams and Meet nudges, or any paid plan. Eye contact and visual presence results came from a camera test pattern, so we do not report them.
How much is Yoodli Pro, and is Yoodli free?
Yoodli costs $0 for 5 lifetime roleplays on Starter, $11 a month for Pro or $8 a month billed yearly ($96), and $28 a month for Advanced or $20 billed yearly, as of September 18, 2026, and it does not refund on cancellation. The plans on its pricing page and in the in-app upgrade modal:
- Starter: $0, up to 5 roleplays in total (not per month), live AI roleplays and feedback on uploaded recordings, no credit card.
- Pro: $11 a month, or $8 a month billed annually. Up to 10 roleplays a week; unused roleplays do not roll over.
- Advanced: $28 a month, or $20 a month billed annually. Unlimited roleplays, data excluded from AI training, labeled reimbursable as a learning benefit.
- Team and Enterprise: custom pricing through a sales demo.
The billing toggle advertises "SAVE 40%", while the actual gap between monthly and annual is about 27% on Pro ($11 against $8) and about 29% on Advanced ($28 against $20). Any practice session over 30 seconds counts as a roleplay.
On refunds, the pricing page is plain: Yoodli "does not offer refunds on cancellation", and access continues to the end of the billing period. For one upcoming interview, that makes the month to month Pro plan the cautious choice over an annual charge of $96.
What happens to your recordings on Yoodli?
On the free and Pro plans, Yoodli may use your roleplay data for AI training; only Advanced and higher tiers exclude it by default, per the pricing page. If your practice stories involve real employers, clients or numbers, that is worth weighing. Privacy of uploaded videos was also the subject of an r/Toastmasters thread. Yoodli lists SOC 2 Type 2 for its enterprise plans.
What do G2 reviewers and Reddit say about Yoodli?
Yoodli's public reviews are few and mostly positive about delivery feedback, with the recurring reservation that it judges speaking style more than substance.
- G2: an average of 4.7 from 9 reviews on September 18, 2026 (eight five-star, one three-star), a small sample. Reviewers praise instant, data-driven feedback, especially filler word tracking, and its use for interview and cold call practice. Their complaints: it focuses on how you speak more than what you say, it lags slightly while processing answers, and they want more quantitative progress data.
- Trustpilot: one review on an unclaimed profile, from June 2026, describing support as unresponsive to bug reports.
- Reddit: threads in r/PublicSpeaking and r/Toastmasters ask whether the paid plans are worth it, with commenters suggesting other speech apps such as Speeko. In an r/csMajors thread on interview tools, one commenter said Yoodli "felt off for my role" (Reddit). Discussion of Yoodli specifically for job interviews is thin.
Is Yoodli worth paying for if you only need interview practice?
For delivery, yes: on Yoodli a free account gets a spoken interviewer that follows up, plus analytics on pace, filler words and wordiness, and paying stays cheap at $11 month to month. Its reputation for ignoring content undersold it in our test, since the coaching named the vague parts of our story. The gaps are tailoring and rewrites: the job description import missed the company, the interviewer defaulted to a generic behavioral rubric, and the example answers came with blanks for you to fill.
If your interview is one to three days away, the free plan is probably enough. Write down your three best stories tonight, spend one roleplay on each, and after each run fix the one habit the Analytics tab flags most. Save the last two roleplays for the morning before the interview, since every session over 30 seconds can use one of the five.
What should you use instead of Yoodli for interview content?

Who makes Yoodli, and is it a real company?
Yes. Yoodli, Inc. is a Seattle company founded in 2021 by Varun Puri, formerly of Google X, and Esha Joshi, formerly of Apple. It announced a $40M Series B led by WestBridge Capital in December 2025, and TechCrunch reported about $60M raised in total, a valuation above $300M and about 40 employees. Its named customers include Google, Snowflake, Databricks and RingCentral.
Is Yoodli free?
Yes, within limits. Yoodli's Starter plan is free with no credit card and allows 5 roleplays in your lifetime, not per month. Its pricing page counts any session over 30 seconds, though in our test the counter stayed at 5 after our first saved session and dropped to 4 when the second began. Pro costs $11 a month or $8 a month billed yearly, as of September 18, 2026.
Is Yoodli good for job interviews or mainly for public speaking?
Both, with a lean toward speaking. Interview mode mixes preset questions with follow-ups based on your answers, and in our test the coaching addressed story structure as well as delivery. But the product, homepage and onboarding are built for communication training in general, and interview preparation is one of several paths. Coding and system design practice are not offered.
What happens when you cancel Yoodli?
Canceling stops future charges and your access continues until the end of the period you paid for, but Yoodli's pricing page says it does not offer refunds on cancellation. On a yearly plan that means the whole year is spent once charged, so a month to month plan ($11 for Pro as of September 18, 2026) is the safer way to try it.
How we tested
On September 18, 2026, from 21:20 to 21:39 local time, we signed up for Yoodli's free Starter plan in an automated desktop Chrome browser with a simulated microphone playing pre-recorded spoken answers and a camera test pattern. We built an interview from our Senior Product Manager job description, ran two voice roleplays, read both feedback pages and opened the upgrade modal. Our recording looped, so follow-ups went unanswered, the pace and wordiness analytics describe a repeated computer-generated answer, and eye contact results are not meaningful. We did not pay, and did not test typed Practice Questions, uploaded recordings or the Zoom, Teams and Meet nudges. User sentiment comes from G2, Trustpilot and Reddit as linked. On September 18, 2026 we tested Yoodli on the free Starter plan in an automated desktop Chrome browser, with a pre-recorded spoken answer played through a simulated microphone and a camera test pattern. Signup took an email, name and password plus email verification, with no card or phone. We chose Interview preparation, pasted our Senior Product Manager job description into Create from a job description (the role was parsed, the company left as Not specified) and ran two voice roleplays. In the second, the AI interviewer asked three follow-up questions in about 2.5 minutes, each specific to our answer, and said "I think I'm hearing the same story twice here." Feedback appeared 13 seconds and about 24 seconds after we clicked Save & View Analysis, with a score (22% and 30%), STAR and active listening rubric scores, coaching that quoted our own sentences, and analytics on filler words, weak words, conciseness, sentence starters and pace. Our recording looped one answer, so the candidate never answered a follow-up properly and the active listening scores reflect our setup; eye contact scores mean nothing because our camera showed a test pattern. We used 2 of the 5 free roleplays and did not test typed Practice Questions, uploaded recordings, real-time meeting nudges or any paid plan.
