What pushes Exponent users to look elsewhere?
People look for Exponent alternatives mainly over billing terms, the narrow scope of its AI practice, and a rebrand that has left some unsure what they are buying. These are the reasons we found on Aced's own pages and in user reviews, checked September 18, 2026.
- The name changed, and the product family with it. Exponent announced in August 2026 that it is becoming Aced; the site still lives at tryexponent.com. Anyone who searched for Exponent, Pramp or Exponent Practice now lands on one Aced membership.
- Monthly prices are high, renewals are automatic, and the refund window is short. Pro costs $79 and Expert $99 month to month, or $12 and $20 a month billed yearly, and the pricing page says memberships "renew automatically" and offers full refunds "within 5 days of purchase". A Trustpilot reviewer reported a $200 renewal charge without warning in 2023. A student in r/csMajors went looking for free mock interview options to avoid the subscription.
- The AI mock interviews are narrow. Aced's AI mock interview page describes a beta: an audio session of 10 to 20 minutes on one automatically assigned bank question, which "does not support technical interviews or live coding". Aced's pricing page lists AI mocks and AI feedback on the Expert plan, though a free account opened its "Practice with AI" in our retry; we did not see whether feedback follows without paying.
- Questions come from a bank, not your job. Aced's database of candidate-reported questions and company guides is deep, but nothing we found builds practice from the posting you are applying to, and there is no feedback on body language.
Before switching, note what Aced does better than anyone here: free live peer mocks with a shared code editor, a deep course library, and human coaches in one place. What should an Exponent alternative do that Aced does not?
An Exponent alternative should fix the Aced weakness that pushed you out, whether that is renewals, AI practice that skips technical rounds, or questions from a bank instead of your posting. Judge each option on the columns in the table above and these points.
- Billing you can live with: pay per session, pay once, or a subscription, plus the refund window. Aced's is 5 days.
- Who or what interviews you: a senior engineer, a peer, a scripted AI, or a general assistant you prompt yourself.
- Question source: your own posting and company, or a shared bank.
- Round coverage: coding and system design with an editor, or behavioral, product and role questions.
- Free option: how many sessions before paying, and whether they reset monthly.
- Delivery feedback: pace, filler words or on-camera presence, which Aced does not score.
What happened to Pramp, and where else can you get free peer mocks?
Pramp's free peer mock interviews still exist, but inside Aced: a banner on pramp.com says "As of July 2024, all new Pramp sessions are hosted on Exponent Practice", and Exponent Practice is now Aced's peer mock feature. When we checked on September 18, 2026, pramp.com was still online, branded "by Exponent", and every practice button led to Aced's practice page, whose FAQ says "Pramp is now Aced (formerly Exponent)". Old Pramp accounts have to be linked to a new Aced account.
The format is unchanged: you and another candidate interview each other for about 30 minutes each over live video, in tracks such as product management, data structures and algorithms, system design and behavioral. Aced's free Basic plan includes 5 peer mocks a month, and Pro removes the cap. The partner is another candidate, and a Blind user complained about partner quality.
Outside Aced, the only other free peer option on this list is interviewing.io: it lists free peer-to-peer mocks for engineers, with quality "not guaranteed", alongside its free AI Interviewer. For a non-engineering round, no pick here offers peers, so the free substitutes are AI: Yoodli followed up on our answers in our test, and ChatGPT Voice will if you ask it to.

interviewing.io replaces Aced's peer mocks with what a peer cannot give: paid, anonymous technical mock interviews with Senior, Staff or Principal engineers from FAANG and similar companies who have run 20+ interviews for their company, judging you in a shared coding environment. It is the natural move for an Aced member preparing for an engineering loop. The company, Interviewing.io Inc., is in San Francisco. You pay per session, from $179, with no subscription to renew, and the FAQ promises a full refund if you are unhappy with an interview. The free AI Interviewer covers coding and system design with 200+ problems, which also fills the gap left by Aced's AI mocks, since those skip technical rounds. AI Interviewer Premium, $20 a month, only saves sessions for review. Prices as of September 18, 2026. It serves engineers only, runs on audio and chat with no video, and in our test onboarding would not continue without a LinkedIn profile. What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, the free AI Interviewer offered only coding and system design, so our product manager questions had no match. The default booking, a Senior+ algorithms mock, showed $189 with the full refund promise. Onboarding asked for years as a software engineer and a LinkedIn profile before the booking form could be used.

2. ChatGPT
ChatGPT Voice, the spoken mode of OpenAI's ChatGPT assistant, is the free route for an Aced user who wanted AI mock interviews but not the $99 a month Expert plan. It runs on the web and in the mobile apps. Ask it to run a product sense, execution or behavioral interview from a posting you paste, to follow up, and to critique your answers against a framework you name. The free plan includes limited voice chats with no published cap; Plus costs $20 a month billed monthly, with 3 hours of Live voice per rolling 24 hours, as of September 18, 2026. Compared with Aced's AI mocks, which score each competency against hiring rubrics, ChatGPT has no built-in rubric or score history, so consistency depends on your prompt. It can also be more encouraging than a real interviewer unless told otherwise, and OpenAI says its voice transcripts are not verbatim. We did not run our test script on ChatGPT for this page.

3. Yoodli
Yoodli, an AI speech and roleplay coach from Yoodli, Inc. in Seattle, fits the Aced member who liked peer mocks for the live back and forth but could not always find a partner: its AI interviewer is available any time, builds a roleplay from a job description, and mixes preset questions with follow-ups based on what you said. It also measures delivery, which Aced does not: pace, filler words, conciseness and sentence starters. The free Starter plan gives 5 roleplays in total with no card; Pro costs $11 a month or $8 billed yearly, and Advanced $28 or $20, as of September 18, 2026. It is a subscription too, with no refunds on cancellation, so it does not solve a dislike of renewals. What we observed
On September 18, 2026 the free plan's interviewer asked three follow-ups within about 2.5 minutes, each about our own story, and feedback loaded 13 and about 24 seconds after saving. The low scores (22% and 30%) partly reflect our setup: the recorded answer we played through the test microphone looped, so the follow-ups were never answered well.

4. Mock Interview Pro (Our product)
Mock Interview Pro, which we build, is the pay-once option for an Aced member facing a product manager or behavioral round at one company: it runs voice or video mock interviews from your posting, then scores and rewrites every answer. It addresses two Aced limits for that candidate: questions come from your posting and target company rather than a shared bank, and nothing renews. On the $39 1-Month Pass you get 30 days and 3 voice mock interviews from the posting, each answer scored and paired with a fix and a rewrite; the paywall names this level "Basic AI feedback". The $59 1-Year Pass covers a longer search with 365 days of unlimited voice, 3 video sessions and the full company research report (Aced's company guides need Pro). Passes carry a 14-day refund against Aced's 5 days. Mock Interview Pro says its interviewer follows up and that video sessions score presence; our free test could reach neither. What you lose from Aced is real: no courses, no peer network, no human coaches and no code editor. What we observed
In our September 18, 2026 test, the free interview plan listed 7 interview rounds for a product manager role at Atlassian with 15 sources, and the free typed box returned a score, one fix and a rewrite in 7.2 seconds. Scores were lenient (65 and 60 on vague answers), and one rewrite added a claim we never made. We did not buy a pass, so voice interviews are untested.
What works

5. Interviews by AI
Interviews by AI, a small web tool from Jake Rosenthal and Chloe Pappas, fixes one specific Aced limitation cheaply: Aced picks questions from its bank, while Interviews by AI writes them from the posting you paste, for any role or industry. You can speak or type each answer, then read written feedback and compare it with a sample response. The free Basic plan gives 3 questions a month that reset, with no card and no account for the first 3; Pro costs $9 a month for unlimited questions and resume upload, as of September 18, 2026. It is far lighter than Aced. There are no courses, no peers, no follow-ups, no score and no coding practice, and no refund policy is published. Canceling keeps access to the end of the paid period. What we observed
In our test on September 18, 2026, the first question built from our posting appeared about 30 seconds after we landed, with no account. Feedback on typed answers took about 4 seconds, asked for metrics, and came with a sample answer. It also criticized an "I think" that was not in our answer, and question 4 required Google sign-in.
What works

6. Huru
Huru, Beatview, Inc.'s video mock interview app, covers a round Aced does not target: the recorded one-way video screen, where you answer a camera with no one on the other side. You record each answer and watch it back, and Huru says its feedback covers pace, pauses, filler words and facial expressions, which Aced does not score. Questions come from job listings or a 50,000 question library, a Chrome extension turns a listing on any job site into an interview, and practice runs in five languages on the web and iOS. Starter costs $24.99 a month and Growth $99 a year, with identical features, as of September 18, 2026. It is still a subscription, and every payment is non-refundable, including renewals, which is stricter than Aced's 5 days. There are no follow-ups, no coding practice and no Android app. A June 2025 Trustpilot reviewer said a paid mock interview "failed to ask me any questions at all". What we observed
On September 18, 2026 Huru turned our posting into 5 questions in about 7 seconds, with the first on screen about 110 seconds from the homepage. It moved on after each answer with no follow-up. The free trial ended after 2 recorded answers, and only a paraphrasing Accuracy tab was readable without paying.

Big Interview, from Skillful Communications, co-founded by career coach Pamela Skillings, is the nearest thing to Aced's course plus practice model outside tech: 170 video lessons that teach answer structure, then a recorded simulator with practice questions filtered by industry, role and seniority and AI feedback on content and on delivery such as pace and eye contact. Many universities and workforce agencies provide it free, so check with your career center first. Bought directly, Interview BootCamp costs $39 for a 30-day subscription that renews until canceled, Interview Accelerator $99 for 3 months and renews, and Interview Pro $299 once for lifetime access, as of September 18, 2026. The refund is 30 days if you do not see results. It has no coding practice, no free plan for individuals, and reviewers find it introductory for experienced candidates. What we observed
Our September 18, 2026 attempt ended at a Select Plan screen right after account creation, with only paid plans billed that day. We did not pay, so the lessons and simulator went untested.

Is Exponent the same company as Aced?
Yes. Exponent announced in August 2026 that it is becoming Aced, and tryexponent.com now reads "Aced (formerly Exponent)", run by the same company, Exponent Labs, LLC. See our Aced (formerly Exponent) review for the full rename timeline.
Can I keep Aced's free peer mocks and use another tool for AI practice?
Yes, and it is often the cheapest setup. Aced's free Basic plan includes 5 peer mocks a month with no card, as of September 18, 2026. Add ChatGPT Voice or Interviews by AI for free solo practice, or a pay-once tool such as Mock Interview Pro for mock interviews built from your posting, without keeping a Pro or Expert membership.
Is interviewing.io cheaper than an Aced membership?
Per month, no; per interview with a senior engineer, it depends. As of September 18, 2026, one interviewing.io human session starts at $179, while Aced Pro is $79 month to month or $12 a month billed yearly, about $144 a year by our arithmetic. Aced's peer mocks are with other candidates, though; its paid coaches are priced separately, per coach.
Which Exponent alternative works for jobs outside tech?
Aced covers tech roles and now finance. For other jobs, Mock Interview Pro, Interviews by AI, Yoodli, Huru and Big Interview all work from a job description or a general library, and ChatGPT works for any role you describe. interviewing.io serves engineers only.
How we tested
On September 18, 2026 our automated, headless desktop browser failed Aced's invisible bot check at email signup ("We couldn't verify your signup"). We retried in a regular desktop Chrome window, the same second chance our own site got: the signup worked and we reached the free Basic plan and its free AI practice, which takes spoken answers only, so we practiced no answer there. Aced's pricing, practice and AI mock interview pages fill in the rest. The same day we checked where pramp.com now sends visitors. We ran our Senior Product Manager script on the free tiers of Yoodli, Interviews by AI, Huru and Mock Interview Pro, and used interviewing.io's free account without paying. Big Interview offered only paid plans. We did not test ChatGPT Voice and describe it from OpenAI's help center. Switching reasons come from Aced's pages, Trustpilot and Reddit as linked. On September 18, 2026 (21:39 to 21:43) we tried to open a free Basic account on Aced (formerly Exponent) by email in an automated, headless Chromium browser. A Cloudflare bot check stopped signup twice ("We couldn't verify your signup. Please try again."). Under our retry rule, we tried again that evening (23:46 to 23:53) in a regular desktop Chrome window with a fresh email address and no social login. Signup passed with no email verification, and after five onboarding screens we reached the practice page on the free Basic plan. On the question "Tell me about a time when you handled a difficult stakeholder", "Practice with AI" opened with no paywall and offered two formats, Conversation and Record. In Conversation, the AI interviewer opened by asking us to describe a specific situation and what made the stakeholder difficult. Both formats take voice only, with no text box, and we do not grant a microphone, so we practiced no answer and saw no AI feedback. We also recorded the public practice page with scheduled peer sessions, a public question page, the pricing page on both toggles (which lists AI mock interviews and AI interview feedback on Expert) and pramp.com. Not tested: AI feedback and its speed, whether a free account gets AI feedback or a capped number of AI sessions, a peer mock, the courses and coaching.
